Hi, Our server runs 2003 with XP client. Our XP clients takes about 5-10 seconds to login and until you see the start menu. Introduction: We have had issues before were login took as long as a couple of minutes which was a troublesome timesink for us. We fixed this issue however, by setting the DNS manual to point to out server. To make it simple I used the groupeditor and specified what DNS clients are supposed to use. Simple and efficient, and the alternative to change dns on clients are now grey:ed out - just like I want it. Our problem: Recently I setup a new client and I discovered that it was not affected by the servers DNS policy and did not…

When I get a document displayed in IE 7.0 and hit the print button my system displays a "Save As" dialog box. There is no way I can print. I've got two different versions of Win'XP installed on my system. On the other installation it prints just fine. What's wrong? How can I fix it? I run monthly batch job to defrag my drives.(XP SP2 version of defrag - not Diskeeper) Today I happened to notice a log file showing: ======= Windows Disk Defragmenter Copyright © 2001 Microsoft Corp. and Executive Software International, Inc. Analysis Report 25.04 GB Total, 9.54 GB (38%) Free, 5% Fragmented (11% file fragmentation) Defragmentation Report 25.04 GB Total, 9.51 GB (37%) Free, 0% Fragmented (0% file fragmentation) ======== Why would I end up with LESS space free than I had while fragmented ? Not concerned - just curious.

Re: The Color 'Red' is missing

Re: The Color 'Red' is missing FIPO: The missing color red was not the cause of my failing monitor, but the setting 'without restart after a color change', which can affect certain programs, in this case the display itself, triggered the discrepancy. Choosing to restart after a color change instead, eliminated my problem entirely on the spot. Quite a learning experience, when considering it worked for so long. Thanks for all positive contributions. Harry.

Remote Desktop printing

I have a new Brother DCP7020 multi-function machine. When using Remote Desktop the remote computer does not recognize this as a printer. I have never had any problem with HP printers; the remote computer always recognizes them without any special intervention on my part. I have been unable to find any suggestions from Brother. Any suggestions from this community will be greatly appreciated.

AD Restore
by Guest a3matrix@gmail.com- 5 replies

Greetings to the group: I am looking at doing an AD restore from tape from last December not for the purposes of rolling back the current environment, but because we need data of some type that is no longer available. Is it possible to perform an authoritative restore of the system state to a DC then unplug that DC from the network so it can't replicate and wind up with a DC with AD on it as it was last December? Rather than squeeze the trigger and wind up finding out the (possibly) really bad way, I thought I would read up and also ask others. So far, the reading has not given me a warm fuzzy. TIA Drew

Small Office Setup Suggestions Requested
by Guest NC Beach Bum- 3 replies

I am setting up a small office server with 3 users on a single Windows 2000 Server. The current plan is to keep things at low level of complexity in this 3 person office. So what I am thinking is to setup the server as a local file server with all local accounts and passwords that do not expire. One person has a laptop and they want to use offline folders with automatic file synchronization when they dock and undock their laptop. Will this work on Windows 2000 Server? Do I have to move them up to Server 2003? Does I have to install a domain with active directory? All thoughts and recommendations are most welcome! -- NC Beach Bum

Internet Explorer 7 not launching
by Guest Vernon D.- 7 replies

Sorry for posting here, I didn't see an IE7 group, only IE6. Anyway my problem is recently my IE7 has not been launching when I double click on it, and I'm not sure what is causing the problem. This started a few days ago, and I think it may have started when I installed a game. When I tried to register to play this game, it tried to open IE7, at which point the browser would open, but it would not connect to anything, and the program would stop responding. Now this problem is only with IE, I also have Mozilla Firefox, and it is working just fine, so it's not a connection problem, I'm just not sure what it is, it's weird. Any help would be appreciated, tha…
