Going by the KC: "Warning Writing the master boot record to the hard disk in this manner can make certain hard disks partitioned with SpeedStor unusable. It can also cause problems for some dual-boot programs and disks with more than four partitions." <http://support.microsoft.com/kb/69013/en-us> does this mean that the command will fail for an OEM install? thanks, Thufir

Hi there. Im running Windows XP SP2 + all fixes released. Upon til today I only had a "Microsoft Natural Wireless Laser Mouse 6000", connected through USB. Everything worked well, except for the poor performance in games which is why I decided to buy another mouse. Today I got the "Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 3.0", which I also connected on USB. Now it seems these two mice can cooperate on the system with just one, VERY annoying glitch. The mousewheel on my Intellimouse explorer just wount work, unless I unplug the Wireless laser mouse, then the wheel instantly works. Im using the latest (v6.1 I think) drivers for intellimouse from Microsoft. No matte…

Hi, We map the "my documents" folder as follows \\server1\users \UserLogOnName Today I was browsing through \\server1\users (using windows explorer) when I saw a folder with the name \\server1\users\documents (The icon was changed to the "my documents" icon). When I double-clicked on the "documents folder" the path in windows explorer changed to the correct name \\server1\users\UserLogOnName! Why did the name of the folder change from "UserLogOnName" to "Documents"??? Thanks for your feedback, Dani

How to share internet with 1 port ADSL modem router ?
by Guest Peter- 1 reply

I just get a 1 port ADSL modem router from the ISP. From the specification, it says that I can use it for Internet sharing. However, as there is only 1 port (1 port for connecting ADSL signal and 1 port for Ethernet), I would like to know why they say that modem is a router ? From my basic understanding, a router should connect more than 1 machine. Thanks

Understanding Cookies

1. I visit a number of sites on a regular basis. Many require a login. Once I've entered the login information, the site creates a cookie in the cookie cache so that I don't have to log in on subsequent visits. So far - I follow the process. 2. Now, periodically I like to flush out all the other hundreds of cookies which sites have dropped into my cookie cache. But I want to retain the cookies for the sites I set up in step 1. But they are sccattered in the listing of hundreds of useless cookies. So here's what I tried. I created a folder called "Cookies-Hold". Into it, I manually copied the cookies from the desired sites. Then, several weeks …

Share without domain
by Guest Lars-Erik Østerud- 1 reply

If you have a server and client not in a domain, you can still connect to a share by giving the password the first time you use it after boot But this happends only if you browse the shared drive, if you click a shortcut to a program on the share nothing happends (no dialog asking for the username and password as when you browse the share): Why? Earlier there was a setting to connect all shares during boot, and that would ask for the password at boot. Fixing this.... But I can't find that setting in XP anymore...
