PC 98 Modem on W2K?
by Guest W. Watson- 11 replies

I may find this out soon enough, but I bought an older PC with a modem in it. I replaced the w98 on it with W2K I had no idea what it was yesterday, when I tried firing up a standard modem. No luck. I opened up the PC and found it had a 3Com USR 56K DFVJ CPCI PC98. The PC98 designation got my attention. Maybe it won't run under W2K? Switching to Legal Copy of XP Pro
by Guest Jim H.- 13 replies

OK, due to a former question I posed in this forum, I've been convinced not to do what I wanted to do, downgrade from XP Pro to Windows 98. So, here's the new question I now have. I've purchased a used P4 machine with an illegal copy of XP Pro on it. I do have a legal copy of the 98 upgrade which is currently on my old machine that I'm throwing in the trash as soon as I get the P4 up and running (legally). Can I simply purchase an XP OEM upgrade, boot from that upgrade CD, format the hard drive and show the OS install process the 98 upgrade CD when asked? I've been told that this will work but I'm still unsure whether or not it will REALLY work. Als…

Europe bought Seagate Freeagent - safe use in N. America?
by Guest johndrake939393@gmail.com- 2 replies

Hello, I purchased a Seagate Freeagent Desktop in Europe (Sweden), a 250 gb, and I would like to safely access the data already stored on the drive in North America, specifically Canada. The voltage in Europe was 220v, the voltage in Canada is 110v. I own a voltage converter that's safe for up to 50 w, and I have an adapter plug to use the European adapter plug in a North American outlet. However, the bundled adapter from Seagate bought in Europe says it's rated for 110/220v. How I safely access the data on the drive in North America? Does the Seagate adapter already have a converter/transformer built in? And all I need to do is use the adapter plu…

windows media player 11 burning
by Guest richardunmpitt- 1 reply

I am having the following problem when I try to burn a cd. I drag my play list to the burn cd window pane. When I click the burn cd button I get a message that says, "Please insert a blank disc in CD Drive (E:). Once Windows Media Player detects the new disc, it will automatically start burning." But I already have a blank disc in the E drive. Then the CD E drive tray opens up, I close it and then the window for the E drive opens up, blank. I think that the media player is not recognizing that there is a blank cd the E drive. If anyone has had this problem or any suggestions on fixing it please let me know. Thanks. -- runmpitt

Hi all, A quickie question. How might a vbscript look like to perform unattended import of a root certificate into the machine store for Trusted Root on a Windows XP? I tried using CertUtil (from W2k3 Admin Pack version) but I think it didn't quite work out. Many thanks and cheers :-) J.

Seems like every time I try to open an excel shortcut it starts to go through the install phase with Front Page. If I cancel the installer, the Excel program then loads but without the file. I then do an open folder and find the correct file and then it opens it. What is causing this please? -- Retired Boeing Bill

I am using Windows XP and want to play music from Windows Media Player 11 to Bluetooth headphones (Motorola HT820). Although I can successfully pair the headphones to the computer, I cannot get any music through the headphones (only through the computer speakers). Do I need to install additional software/hardware to get this to work? Thanks for any help. James

by Guest ThaDraGun- 3 replies

I'm having a problem with Microsoft Money 2007 Deluxe and I'm thinking it must be a security setting thats not set right, but I can't find where to change it. It has something to do with Internet Explorer. When I first open up the program it immediately pops up a box saying: Do you want to open or save this file? Name: MNY1CB4.surfplace Type: SurfBoard Shim Doc Object View, 1.50KB From: surf.mar@ I click open and it will load the login page. I enter my login and it says the exact same thing over again. I hit open and it will load the next page. This will happen for every Tab, link, or menu that I open. It's very annoying. Anyone know how to fi…

TTS tab missing from Speech Properties; TTS not working
by Guest mrceolla@gmail.com- 0 replies

Hello, Please forgive me if I'm posting this in the wrong place. Please recommend a better group if one exists. I have a fully updated SBS 2003 install. I have some home automation and answering machine software that can use TTS to announce various events. This is why I am wanting it to work. Needless to say, it does not. When I go to Start-->Control Panel-->Speech, I have only 1 tab, Speech Recognition. I should have another tab labeled Text To Speech. I do not and I do not know why. The system was built/installed w/ the onboard audio turned disabled. I have recently enabled the onboard audio. All other audio seems to work fine (WMP, Dire…
