I've tried the 64-bit version before when Vista was in its beta stages and i'm wondering if it's improved any in compatability, performance, and whatnot. Are there any users here that can comment on their experiences with x64?

Safely Access Seagate Freeagent data from Europe
by Guest johndrake939393@gmail.com- 3 replies

Hello, I purchased a Seagate Freeagent Desktop in Europe (Sweden), a 250 gb, and I would like to safely access the data already stored on the drive in North America, specifically Canada. The voltage in Europe was 220v, the voltage in Canada is 110v. I own a voltage converter that's safe for up to 50 w, and I have an adapter plug to use the European adapter plug in a North American outlet. However, the bundled adapter from Seagate bought in Europe says it's rated for 110/220v. How I safely access the data on the drive in North America? Does the Seagate adapter already have a converter/transformer built in? And all I need to do is use the adapter plu…

Hey I was just wondering if anyone could tell me how to change, or check on my resolution. I just got a new LCD Flat Screen Monitor and the papers that came with it said to make sure my resolution is 1280 x 1024, and I don't know how to access it. I have no clue where it would be. Thanks for all your help in advance. <3 Cindy

usb hub question
by Guest Gianni- 7 replies

I have two usb slots on my PC. I installed a hub into one of them and connected the scanner that was using the PC slot to the hub. Everything worked fine until I tried to run shut down where everything seemed to shut down but the PC wouldn't shut off. I also cannot boot with the hub connected with the scanner. After trying different things, I can shut off and reboot the machine if I unplug the scanner from the hub; I have nothing else connected to it at the moment, but I will in the future. Is this the way it should work, or do I have to do something else? System: 98SE

Copy User Account
by Guest Pat- 2 replies

Windows XP Pro, I need to copy an account (let's call it AdminAccount) that has administrator privileges, to a new account that I need to create (let's call it UserNew) - the new UserNew account will be a user-level account. I need to copy all settings from AdminAccount to UserNew, including desktop and start menu. (However, IE6 in AdminAccount only has a few favorites, so if I don't copy them over it's no biggie.) AdminAccount will be deleted later. Recommendations on the web include manually copying over USER.DAT and such, but I'm not sure if that's the safest method? What's the best/safest way to do this? Thanks, Pat

How to remove .RAR options from Win 2K menus?
by Guest w.r.anderson@gmail.com- 2 replies

(I'm a disabled senior on a small Social Security pension, so I have to rely on hand-me-down computers and software and that means I'm still running Win2K, but I'm hoping that I can find an answer for my problem in this group, as the Windows 2000 newsgroup is not very active anymore) A while back I downloaded a file that was compressed with something called RAR. I ended up downloading and installing an RAR file utility called WinRAR and now my Windows 2000 menus are cluttered with RAR menu items. For example, now in Windows Explorer, when I right click on a file name, on the little menu that drops down, no less than *four* RAR items now appear: …

Program uninstalled, but it remains on HD and in "Add/Remove Progr
by Guest Amaw Opaw- 4 replies

I recently uninstalled Nero's "Home Essentials" program and used their registry "cleaners" to make sure the program is removed. However, I see in the "add/remove" panel that it's still there and supposedly taking up 400 MB of space. The panel does not allow me to change or remove it, and manually deleting the folder does nothing; it respawns every time I start up my computer. I've even tried using Abexo's registry cleaner, but I'm afraid I may have to go into the registry manually and clean it out that way to fully get rid of Nero. Any suggestions? I'm stumped.

In the past I had trouble with service pack 2 and did not have it on my computer. I decided to install it so I could download Mindows defender. After installation and updates I could not open Excel or word documents. For Excel I get 'Cannot Read' and for Word " file is not available" pdf and picture files, also in My Documents, open fine. I ended up removing service pack2- still couldn't read files, repaired Windows XP Professional--still couldn't read--reinstalled Office xp Small Business-still can't read files. Help! JohnF

Norton Ghost Imaging Problem - XP Pro - Encrypted Files
by Guest AMD_GAMER- 2 replies

Have a problem using Norton Ghost to image computers. I have made dozens of clones, but have a problem with a specific image. When I image the machine, and then use Ghostwalker to change the SID value, it errors and says that there are "ENCRYPTED FILES ON THE PARTITION." I went back into the image and looked for encrypted files by doing a search with *.* to show all files, and look under the attributes. No files are showing as being encrypted. Any ideas to fix the problem? If you continue by ignoring the error and ghostwalk the image with a different SID, the one user's profiles get corrupted and becomes inaccessible.
