"Disk defragment" is not defragmenting
by Guest v- 2 replies

I have been using Adobe Photoshop elements 3.0 recently editing photos. I think this is where my problem began. I think it saves each photo, or portion of photo's somewhere. After using this program previously, I now have only 1.2 GB of free space, when I should have approx. 4-5GB of space left. Also, when I try to defragment my "C" drive, it indicates that most of the drive is red, or "fragmented". When I run the program, it does not clean the drive. It seems to go through the process, but does not really defrag any files. I believe Photoshop has files of these edited photos somewhere but I can't find them. I have searched many different options on the "C" d…

Location of cookies and downloaded videos
by Guest Pete- 6 replies

In the old days I could find the cookies on my system by just searching for "cookies" but now IE has the option to eliminate them. But where are those cookies actually stored now (which folder)? And when I view a "video on demand" where are those files stored? Sure, I can use Disk Cleanup to eliminate downloded videos and other things, but I really like to know how things work on my XP Pro PC. I'm running IE7, if it matters. Thanks. -- Pete

Domain users - power users on XP wkstn
by Guest lab-guy- 1 reply

I've been creating local power users, signing in to the local machine and mapping drives to a 2003R2 server. It was easier to do it this way since we had users and pc's before the server. I have 3 new users starting shortly, and want to do it right. If I sign them into the domain, how do I make them a power user on XP ? I sign is to the domain as a domain admin and have local admin rights, but what do I do for users ? Thanks - Mike

XP Destroying MBR on re-install
by Guest Steve Wright- 8 replies

Hi, Quite a complex one this one - please excuse. Problem 1. When booting up XP stalls. It will boot via "safe mode" and "safe mode with networking" but VGA mode totally dies. Has happened 3 times in the last month. I am not aware of what the problem is that causes this. I've done a full virus scan and found no problems. Problem 2. To resolve problem 1 it tried to perform a fresh install (repair install wouldn't stick) on the hard drive. The files are copied but when the machine reboots the MBR is totally screwed and the machine cannot now boot at all. The disk is TOTALLY RUINED as a bootable disk. This is the third time this has happened. To b…

Terminal server and W2K3 Server licenses
by Guest GotNoIdea- 4 replies

OK I need to get this straight as I have heard all kinds of explainations and comments. I'm looking into setting up a W2K3 Standard server for a potential that will also be used as a Citrix server. The amount of clients and user accounts is undetermined at the moment. I know for example if I'm going to have say 50 users accessing this server that I will need 50 W2K3 user cal's as this server will also be a DC. Now my question is do I also need terminal server licenses? My coworker seems to disagree that we need them. He claims that since XP comes with the TS client (RDC) that it is no longer required. We have our own W2K3/Citrix server that is a terminal serve…

What errors do they get? Can your domain users on workstations (not logging into TS) add network printers? Files transition to offline when server is available
by Guest Rich Wethington- 3 replies

Hi, We use Windows Server 2003 Standard edition for our server and Windows XP for our clients at church. The laptop users have their My Documenst folder redirected to a network share. One user gets several "You have lost the connection to <server name>" several times a day. There does not seem to be any reason. If she immediately goes to Windows Explorer or browses the network in any way. All of the network drives are there. I tried diasabling offline fielsa nd then redoing the redirection, but it did not have any affect. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Rich

Sorry, you did say "laptops" and I didn't notice. Event logs might help, perhaps....but I'm adding a crosspost to microsoft.public.windowsxp.general to cast a wider net (as this is a client issue, too). > > "Lanwench [MVP - Exchange]" wrote: > >> Rich Wethington <RichWethington@disc…
