by Guest Lester Stiefel- 1 reply

I have a hardware firewall ready to use, but still require advice on some items the firewall traps. From indicators I have verified the services or applications to be "dllhost" and "svchost" from a trial firewall software solution, which has(d) the same behavior. The question is 'where can I find information on what ports either dllhost or svchost would use (in addition to 80).' -- Lester Stiefel Visit Family Radio Today http://www.familyradio.com/

changing IP scheme need help with cutover for windows printers
by Guest obulldog27- 3 replies

We are changing our network IP Scheme so therefore our old network printer settings will not work. All our printers are installed on our w2k server and are shared out to users. If I just change the ip settings for each printer will I have to re-add the printers on each client or will this be a seamless change. Maybe there is an easier method to do this.

Hi guys. I had a problem with our Windows 2003 Server. We were working using Remote Desktop to reboot the server. After reboot, some of servers couldn't login to Terminal Service. I trayed to telnet selecting port number, but couldin't connect it.(NG using netstat -n) There were any message about terminal service on event viewer. So, we decided to reboot again, using HP-iLO. After that, server tuned on and terminal service worked again. What is going on this server? What is the problem? Only way to fix it is reboot? I looked around google, but I coundn't find any problem like mine

Networking problem

I am trying to link a desktop intel 865 machine together with a HP Z8000 AMD laptop to transfer files. These machines have not been networked before. After much configuration and work (I am not a network expert), I got both machines set up though a wireless router using two hardwired ethernet ports. Both machines are setup DHCP with guest accounts activated. I have a shared files folder set up on each machine. I finally got it to the point that from the desktop i can ping the ip of the laptop (192.168.1.102) and get a response. and I can ping the desktop from the laptop. but, i cannot see the remote machines in windows explorer or under networking MSHOME. …

maximum command length in Windows Scheduler
by Guest rpremuz@yahoo.com- 3 replies

Hello, I have a question for a MS MVP. What is the maximum length of a command that you can put in a Windows scheduled task (its run field)? E.g. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/830473/en-us gives command-line string limitations for various versions of MS Windows but does not tell anything about the Windows Scheduler. -- rpr. /Robert Premuz/

Memory and 64bit Turion with vista
by Guest Matt- 5 replies

Just treated myself to a new laptop. it claims to have a 1 gig memory, but when I check my properties, it only show 766mb. BIOS shows even less at 633. Have I been duped by Acer, or is this something in Vista (home prem)? My taskmanager memory is running at 70% with no apps running, v poor performance! Also, how do I get the best from my processor? I suspect I am operating at 32bit.

by Guest Monty- 13 replies

Ok I rushed into this and was not thinking straight. I was reformatting my computer and reinstalling the OS. When the listed partitions were listed I deleted all of them thinking I was going to repartition it. Well I accidentally deleted the partition for my external hard drive which I did not mean to. I didn't format the drive yet but of course I plugged my external hard drive into another computer and it is recognized but of course the volume is not listed. How do I get to the files that were on the external hard drive? I'm really stressed out here. Trying to install Windows XP Pro and the external hard drive is NTFS. Please help I was not sure where to po…
