Legacy Windows Archive ( Read Only )

The IDE drive is from a laptop and runs with the USB cable power. I can hear the drive running when I hook it up. It was working on the laptop before. I have seen the Disk management but nothing there. The problem seems to be that the windows fails to install the new hardware. It gives me message that recognised "USB-IDE" then as "USB Mass Storage " then it pops up saying "Failed to install new hardware" reason being that device is not recognised. I dont know how to solve it.

I am trying to run VBSCRIPT in windows XP and unable to run, but the same script can be run on Windows 2000 professional, what needs to be done ? OR If any patch available where I can be copy in my PC? Please help.

Hello and thanks in advance. I have a Windows 4.0 Server that all of a sudden gives an error when trying to print to it. "THE RPC SERVER IS UNAVAILABLE" It was working fine a week ago and the problem started on Friday July 27. Any suggestions and links will be very helpful. Thank you KJG

I can use psinfo to display a process and its threads. I can use pskill to kill an entire process. Is there a command to kill a single thread within a process...by TID? Running W2K

I've been looking online for a basic intro and overwhelmed with details. What I'm trying to do: I have jpg,avi's from my digital camera that I'd like to send to family to watch on a store-bought DVD player. I've been wasting a few days trying to make this happen with moviemaker and Nero. I've created +R, - R , VCDs - ok on PC and then I bring into my living room - insert the CD/DVD and get an error. It won't load. I have Nero 7 and thought it had ability to do this - when I choose Make DVD and browse, it's looking for vob files ( isn't that DVD stuff already?), so I tried Data - DVD - browse - still avi, wmv is not "good". Hi, We have been experiencing problem recently on few of our excel files stored in a shared drive of Win2k3 server. We can open the files can do amendment but we cannot save them on the same file, it returns an error: "the file it is being used by another person or program....." while there is only one user accessing the file. We got the same error when we go to the server and rename/delete the file but we can access the file as normal if we shutdown the server. Any clue? Garry

All of a sudden the Start/Search has stopped finding anything. It hasn't been all that long since I've used it. Now it always says “Search is complete. There are no results to display.” I usually use the “All or part of a file name”, i.e. *.dll or “microsoft”, etc. and it has always found *something*, even in the cache. I haven’t used “A word or phrase in the file” that I recall. If I did it found something. I did try that though and it found nothing. I have got a laptop second hand & cannot get past the login as I do not know the password. I have read some recent tips from others which direct you to download an ISO file. The problem is I cannot get the files out of the ISO to copy to a CD. Can anbody help with another methos or how can I extract the files. I have managed to get another OS on so I do have access to the drive but when I did this I didnt seem to get any drivers. I know the PC has sound, wireless etc but none of these work with the second OS. Would it be better for me to get these working instead. If so I need help with this. Cheers

we have windows2003 Enterprise server Domain controller having 50 doamin users from past few day from some WindowsXP clients domain users are not able to login but still domain adiministrator is able to login from those machines , can any onde help me regarding this.. thanks in advance , kiran

I'd like to convert a 300G Maxtor OneTouch drive from FAT32 to NTFS. Because of the amount of data that I've got it would be very inconvenient to have to back this drive up. Is it reasonably safe to use the "convert" command on this disk? I've done a practice run on another drive on my PC without any problems. BTW I don't have any life-or-death commercial data on this drive.

I have been to this site before and have received a lot of helpful advice on various computer issues. I don't have a problem this time, but do have a question about computer certifications. I was wondering who/what is the best source to obtain study material/practice exams from. I have looked at PrepLogic and MeasureUp just to name a couple. I am just starting out and have just the A+ certificatios so far. I'm looking to study for Net + first, and move up from there. Any advice would be appreciated. Windows Update shows that my PC needs Windows defender (Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB915597 (Definition 1.20.2825.10)). I am worried that installing this program may bring down the speed. Is this really needed?
