Annoying start up screen
by Guest Alex- 15 replies

I just installed a new hard drive and did a complete file transfer from the old one to the new one. Everything works fine except when Windows starts up I get this screen: Please Select Operating System To Start: Windows (Default) Windows (Default) Showing the same option twice, 30 second timer, etc. I don't know where it came from, I only have Windows XP home. It doesn't matter which option I select or wait for the timer, it still boots to my desktop just fine, but it is annoying. I know it's a line in the msdos.sys file but I don't know which one to edit and correct to get rid of it. Thanks for anyone that can help. A.

And I think I didn't spell it right. Can someone tell me why I had the problem? And I did a system recovery on my computer to restore the computer to the time when this computer was bought. I did that instead of system restore cause System Restore does not work, -- ?????

Hey all, Just curious if there is an implementation of Powershell (like the one in Exchange 2K7) for A.D.. When I use Google I'm seeing a lot of .wsh and .vbs scripts that are being called PowerShell but I'm referring to the one line cmdlet's that I use with Exchange. Anyone know if that's available for A.D.? Thanks, D

by Guest MountainBiker- 3 replies

My user needs to create 120 sub-folders on the share. The names for each are in Excel. How can I avoid the tedium of creating each one and automate the process? I found at least one 3rd party app, but it's $20 and just names each folder sequentially. Thanks in advance!

Guest Access only on LAN peer to peer
by Guest John In Palmer- 3 replies

Good morning, I recently ran into an issue on a peer to peer network that would not let me connect to other machines on the same workgroup. All machines could see each other just fine, however; when attempting to connect to another machine, it would display the appropriate log in screen, but with the Guest profile account selected and grayed out (no other option to put in a seperate profile was available) and only the password field was available. Currently, I have the Guest accounts on all of these machines disabled for security reasons. These are all Windows XP Professional machines, newer Dell hardware, I have disabled all Firewall software (Norton Int…

Are you a Windows guru with C++?
by Guest Maryellen- 0 replies

HI! I work at VMware and have been watching this list for a while and I thought there are some of you that might be interested in an opportunity here for a Senior Engineer that has solid Windows experience. We need someone with solid C++ but also with some Windows Management Systems experience. We are in Palo Alto (if you live in other locations in the USA we might have remote offices close to you, so please do not let location be an issue, as long as you are in the USA) and we are spinning out an IPO this summer, so timing is excellent, technology is exciting (we are the leaders in virtualization) and your hands on expertise would be highly valued. Please con…

Lost Printer Ports
by Guest man- 0 replies

I am running WinXP Pro SP2. I deleted a couple of IP Ports in the Printer Properties Ports window. I then rebooted, and when the system came back up there are no longer any ports at all listed in the Ports window of the Printer Properties window. In addition, the print spooler service now starts and stops immediately, then starts and stops again in an endless loop. I have tried to do a system restore to three different restore points, and all have failed. I uninstalled and reinstalled the printer drivers, all to no avail. I can not add a printer, as it fails because I can not see or select any ports in the drop down list of that wizard. Can someone …

Hey All- I have a machine that's off domain, that is used by multiple users, but they need to use the shared file systems (domain member) to give presentations, etc. I'm looking for a mechanism (batch file/script) that a user can initiate that would map a drive to a predetermined path, but prompt them for their domain credentials.
