Local GPO
by Guest Avari- 4 replies

I won't go into too much detail but due to the constant corruptions of the GPO's and mismanagement from other staff. I have decided to steer way from domain created GPO's. Can you please advise how I would achieve the same as GPO's but applied locally to my Terminal Server/Citrix servers. I want any users who belongs to a security group that is logging into my Terminal Servers/Citrix servers to apply a local policy to lock them down. There are numerous settings I want applied the most important ones are, users unable to see the local server drives and unable to access control panel. Many thanks

Can you set process priority for an exe?
by Guest dean- 19 replies

Hello all, I regularly run Borland's compiler (CBuilder 6.0) at work as a full time developer, but when it compiles it hogs nearly all of the machine's CPU time, and all other apps are very unresponsive. If I set the priority level of the process to LOW, then everything works fine and the program still runs just the same. How can I set the priority level on an application such as this? I right-click on the shortcut and can't see anything related to priority levels. Thanks! Dean

Boot.ini /3GB switch problem?
by Guest John Kotuby- 0 replies

Hi all, On a Windows 2003 Server Enterprise web server that also runs SQL Server 2005 Standard and a rather large ASP.NET 2.0 application, I tried to improve performance by adding the /3GB switch to the boot.ini file. The server has only 4GB of RAM. After adding the switch, hoping to boost performace for SQL Server, and rebooting the machine, I now find that my ASP.NET application which uses SQL Server as a backend, is running much slower than before. I have since removed the /3GB switch from the boot.ini and rebooted the server, but the peformance has not returned. Is there a registry setting that might be stuck that I would need to fix? Thank…

My taskbar keeps dissapearing, I have checked the Auto Hide option, and its not that. If I press the Windows key, it appears, and it only dissapears when I have a maximized window open. Is there an option somewhere to keep the windows taskbar on top? I have checked for virus/spyware etc and found nothing. It's driving me crazy. Thanks.

If this is the wrong 'forum', please let me know and also where to turn. Since I'm using WinME, I figured it would be worth a try: In Properties/Settings under 'Colors' the color red is now completely missing, while at first it sporadically changed back to 'normal' with all colors present. This makes the display appear greenish and the former blue purplish. Otherwise no changes. It seemed to coincide with the loss of my 'WinZip' (just a guess). Does this indicate the monitor going bad'? Or is the cause somewhere else? If it can be fixed, please let me know. Harry.

4GB in WOW
by Guest onequestionone@yahoo.com- 6 replies

Dear All, My question is, can I allocate 4GB of physical memory when I run my 32bit application in Windows 64bit edition in a machine that has 16GB memory. I already tried allocating of 3GB by configuring 32bit windows but I need more. I think it may be possible because in 64bit I don't have 1GB OS preallocated and WIN64 is running from somewhere else. My program is a in memory database and need not to use virtual memory and all its data should be in physical RAM. Thanks for any reply, John

System32 directory corrupted - how to repair?
by Guest simonbrentford@googlemail.com- 5 replies

Hi there, I have the following error: Windows XP could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM I have tried following a knowledge base article (kb307545) which says to repair the files, however in DOS I cannot navigate to the system32 directory. So I have 2 questions: 1. How am I supposed to repair operating system if the directory is corrupted? 2. Is it possible to mount a USB hard disk and remove important data before rebuilding? Cheers, Simon
