Server goes to Sleep?
by Guest S Sainsbury- 5 replies

I have a windows 2003 R2 Server running Exchange 2003. Initially the server ran fine, however shortly after upgrading exchange to Enterprise version we started to have connectivity issues. At somepoint during the night the server drops its connection, this usually happens around 21:00 and causes the backup to fail (backup runs from 18:00 too 22:00). The server then appears to be in sleep mode until the first user in the morning attempts to access email, after about 5-10 mins of trying to connect to email the server appears to wake. The server will then work 100% until the evening and again will loose connectivity at somepoint, anywhere between 18:00…

Partitioning - 64K block size - Using the Windows interface
by Guest Pawluk- 5 replies
I want to partition my 320GB HDD with 2 additional drives, D:\ and E:\ and would like to partition one of these drives with 64K block sizes. Unfortunately, I have never done this on Windows XP and after reviewing the Windows XP "Using the Windows interface" help file, I do not know how to specify the 64K block size. The 64K block size is supposed to enhance my PVR TV recording playback features. I plan on using the other drive for DVD recordings. Any assistance is sincerely appreciated. Thanks, Pawluk

Bootable partitions G, H, and I are on the same drive. I boot partition G and try to change the H partition letter but a warning message appears informing me that H is in use. The H partition is neither a system nor a pagefile partition. Then I try to change the I partition letter but again a warning message appears informing me that partition I is in use. I is neither a system nor a pagefile partition. Since I booted partition G, why is H and I in use?

Preventing Standby
by Guest flahmeshess- 3 replies

Previously, my machine would go into standby at the preset time. But now, sometimes it does not. The PC also does not turn off the screen at the preset time. I wonder what would prevent the machine from going to standby ? What would reset the timer so that it does not kick off the standby mode. Hard disk access ? Lan Activities ? Keyboard activities ? Mouse activities ? CPU utilisation ? Thanks for any advice !

DFS - Conflicted and Deleted folder
by Guest darth lawb- 0 replies

Hi Our servers DFS replication service did not start after a reboot and when I started it manually it complained that the DFS database had become corrupted. The server said it had managed to fix it and carried on with replication, however the conflictedanddeleted folder just grows and grows surpassing its 600mb quota!! This is bad news as we only have 20gb left on the server in question. I have restarted the same service and lowered the qouta to 10mb and I have also restarted the Distributed File System service and the File Replication Service. It seems to me that the server is doing another intial replication and the problem being that the dfs s…

hello all,, specially heather the 'hill roaming tourist'. hi guys, if you recall, i mentioned a couple of weeks ago that i was having problems getting adaware updated, it would get to 5% then simply say Error. since then i have re-installed it many times, but i still get the same flipping error,,,,,,,,, its like a boomerang, just keeps coming back. as it stands now, it seems i am 794days out of whack with updates,, which is to naturally be expected after new install. am i missing something, or is it now impossible to use adaware unless one updates to the 'troublesome' 2007 version??? i refuse to put this one on due to the many problems i've hear…

My computer is dying. Its old and pretty grumpy. I want to buy a lap top with a more up-to-date OS but I have years of personal files saved in ME word processing. Can Vista or some other OS open, modify and close these old files or am I just out of luck when my old computer dies?

Setting up email capability on a VPC image
by Guest STom- 0 replies

I sent the email below to the VPC newsgroup but was told that this really had nothing to do with VPC specifically, but had more to do with how to setup a lone server that could send email to itself (like for doing labs etc where the student only has one machine and not networking capability). Here is that email: ******************************************** I have a vpc image created with VPC 2007. It is: Windows 2003 Standard SP2 with all the latest patches (named DEMOAPPSERVER) SMTP POP3 IIS Office 2007 Professional Visual Studio 2005 SQL 2005 MOSS I just login as Administrator so there are no other users on the machine. What I want to be able …

How to identify runaway process / memory leak
by Guest Brian- 3 replies

I have an SBS2000 server that pretty much hangs after about 10 days of running because it runs out of nonpaged pool space. It has been running fine for about 5 years, and this started perhaps two months back. The first time, I thought it was just an anomaly, but there has turned out to be a consistent memory leak. Through PerfMon, I have identified the fact that both the nonpaged bytes & the handle count steadily rise after a reboot but cannot easily identify which process is responsible. All the documentation I have seen seems to require me to have a suspect process before I can determine whether it is, indeed, the problem. However, how can I ident…
