Hello, I have legacy system written in Clipper 5.2e/Blinker 7.0. I need to do a bunch of SET' when I open up the command shell. To do that I run a batch file once command.com is triggered, but variables are not been set as they supposed to. I can set these variables one-by-one and it works fine, but cannot run batchfile. Any ideas? is it possible to set variables using a SCRIPT? Gus sdl-gus@rogers.com

re earlier thread i checked my win-NT4 NTFS version (i never did service pack 4; just 3,5,6a) http://thinkpads.com/WinXP_Comments1.htm (instructions for using dskprobe to determine NTFS version - makes brain surgery or rocket science seem trivial) 2nd line after the 70 line was 01 02 so my NTFS is still 1.2 ?? these might help? NTFSCHK - run win-2000 chkdsk from NT4 http://web.archive.org/web/20060819014420/www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/NtfsChk.html change NTFS from win-2000 version back to NT4 version: http://www.vamos.de/english/bootman2.html#zu_w2 ftp://ftp.vamos.de/pub/vamos/Mark4NTFS.zip (posted from Win-NT4 Install date: 1997/0…

How can I change boot drive to C?
by Guest M.L.- 20 replies

Hi. While trying to assist my niece to install WinXP over the phone a few weeks ago, something got crossed or misinterpreted and I found out recently that she installed XP to her H drive instead of her C drive. Her H drive is now nearly full and the much larger C drive is almost empty. Short of reinstalling her system more carefully, is there a way to easily change her system drive to C, along with her profiles, etc? Thanks in advance.

Profiles not migrating to new server
by Guest Innovations- 0 replies

I am trying to shut down a company's orignal server (001) and move to a new server (002). I have gone into group policies and changed all the folder redirection policies and I have changed their profile settings in AD to send their profiles to the new server. As best I can tell everything is telling them to save their My Docuemnts, etc. to 002 but looking at the file updates times it is apparent that they are instead still saving to 001

recovering lost partitions...
by Guest GO- 3 replies

Hello, XP crashed on me yesterday and upon rebooting the system I found that my second hard drive was "missing". Probably not really relevant but at the time of the crash I was copying a disc and "burning" the image to said hard drive. Under XP's Disk Management I discovered that it's now marked as unitialized, and have lost the 3 partitions I had on it. I haven't lost anything crucial but I would still like to recover the partitions if possible. I've run some basic diagnostics and nothing unusual has shown up in the Event Logs so I'm assuming the drive is still ok. I've run Acronis' Disk Director partition recovery tool (the quick method) and it was unabl…

Hi all, Migrating from 2000 to XP (finally) Does anyone know of a nice little script/utility that can take a snapshot of things like printer connections, default signature location (maybe even copy it to a pre-specified network folder with username or pc name variable to create the folder or file), pst files (copy too) and other useful stuff? Many thanks! Andy

Need F6 driver for Intel 945 chipset
by Guest Barry Watzman- 9 replies

I'm trying to install Windows XP on a Gateway MT6711 notebook, which comes with Windows Vista. The first problem is that XP's distribution media doesn't even recognize the SATA hard drive. I need an "F6 driver" for an Intel 945 series chipset (actually 943, but I don't think it matters). I'm using a USB floppy drive (from which the Gateway will even boot), so a floppy version is what I'm looking for. Anyone have it or have a link to it?

by Guest ColTom2- 4 replies

Hi: I purchased a Sony VGC-716G desktop factory refurbished computer in June 05 with Windows Media Center 2004. Shortly thereafter I purchased from Sony the Media Center 2005 upgrade and installed it with no problems. I created Sony Recovery System and Application discs and also purchased from Sony their System Recovery VGC-RA710 Series discs just to be sure that I never had any recovery problems that I could not resolve. I did do one reformat after purchase of the computer and prior to installing the Media Center 2005 upgrade with no problems. Later I installed the Media Center 2005 upgrade, as indicated with no problems. This week I had …

Hi, I have a very strange problem that am fnding diffcult to resolve or start to resolve. We have a Server2003R2 box with 1 app, our accounts program Sage Line 50. The problem i'm being faced with is , within the program, there is an option to design your own reports, (report designer) which generaly takes 15-20 secs to open. From my own PC as an example, 1 day it can be the timing above, other days it can takes 1m 40secs, and nothing has changed, or been amended. any help on where to start diagnosing this would be very grateful. Thanks Marc

I think this is connected to some applications not starting. Is there a way I can check where this is going wrong?? Examples of error messages from error log below: Service Control Manager Timeout (30000 milliseconds) waiting for the dlcf_device service to connect. Service Control Manager The dlcf_device service failed to start due to the following error: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.
