by Guest Ward- 3 replies

I need some help here for a fire investigator friend of mine: The short story: A fire was started in the home and the power was killed to the home. Computer was running at the time of the fire and shut down when the power was killed. Question: Is there any way to see what was going on on the computer before the fire killed the power to the home. Some kind of log information that might be able to provide some kind of time line? Thanks for any suggestions and help.

Changing an icon on the desktop
by Guest Trish- 5 replies

Hi, I often put shortcuts on my deskop and like to easily identify them by using different icons. I used to simply right-mouse-click on the existing icon, go to properties, change icon and select from a range. Often the range of icons doesn't show, but a series of (meaningless) folders instead. In any event, there was not that much to choose from. What is the best way to change an icon, and when I browse for an icon, where should I go to get a good selection? Many thanks.

If it ain't broke... 1 2

With all the Hype about Vista, not many people actually want it. MS is doing everything for you to buy it. Even making games like Halo 2 exclusive for Vista. What MS does not realize is that they had a great, stable OS Which was just lacking perfect security, but for the average person XP Is great for gaming, photos movies and works with all current drivers. When people start complaining about VISTA I actually laugh because all the problems they are having are because companies like Lexmark, Canon and Nvidia all want you to buy new hardware and are not that quick to make drivers for OLD Hardware.

Introducing PowerShell (MSH) - Windows answers to linux shell?
by Guest Pavs 2007- 0 replies

PowerShell is built on top of the .NET Framework and replaces the old process of using text to pass data like the current CMD shell. PS is a scriptable language that provides an alternative to the manual changes you make through a GUI. It is more powerful than Perl or WSH, although those two technologies can help with automating a lot of tasks. Let's look at what PS is and is not and hopefully it will help clear things up a bit. http://www.windowhaxor.net/index.php/2007/07/31/introducing-powershell-msh-windows-answers-to-linux-shell/

Windows XP SP2 and Word crash
by Guest diane- 6 replies

Recently, we started allowing updates on Windows XP with Office 2007. Outlook crashed, and eventually Internet Explorer crashed. I reinstalled XP, but nothing changed. So I reformatted the hard drive, reinstalled XP, reinstalled Office, installed the updates, and ta-da, everything worked. Then I used Word one time. The next time I tried using Word, *it immediately crashed and then asked if I wanted to restart in safe mode. I said yes, and it crashed and asked if I wanted to restart in safe mode. I said yes. Repeat constantly from the * unless I opt to not restart. My husband tried installing a music program with the same result. The error…

by Guest Richard H Paul- 1 reply

My taskbar is stuck in the up position and I like to have it hide itself when not in use. For some reason this has stopped working. I have chosen the "autohide taskbar" option under "Properties" on the right-clicked taskbar menu. The taskbar hid itself once then stuck back up again and won't go down into hidden position. Why might this happen and how to fix it?

Directory Service

Does the Directory Service in a windows 2000 domain replaces the computer browser service. I suspect the browser service from generating a lot of network traffic, so I want to disable the service. In the Windows 2000 domain are 2003 member servers present, xp and 2000 pro clients. All the comments are very welcome, thanks in advance
