External Drive will not Defrag - "chkdsk" issue
by Guest IMAGEREP- 3 replies

Hi Kelly (my guess you'll be answering this question) I read your rely to Mike on 7/29/07 (post name: Computer wants to dskdsk on boot). That was my original problem as well as each time I restarted my PC, it would automatically chkdsk my external USB drive. I read through ALL the info, performed the task as well as checked the registry (did not have to change anything). The auto chkdsk is not resolved and boot up goes right to windows. ANOTHER PROBLEM: Keep in mind, it's my external drive I'm working on. I performed Disk Clean-up as usual before I run defrag. did that, no problem. I then go to Defrag and select my external drive. I get an Error me…

Installing Excel 2003 to Windows 2003 Terminal Server
by Guest Will- 2 replies

After instaling Office 2003 Small Business Edition to a W2K3 Terminal Server in Application Mode, an ordinary user on the box is unable to start Excel. Excel 2003 starts to the main windows and then presents the modal dialog with the error "Feature is not available" and after hitting OK on the dialog Excel quits. The Microsoft page for installing Office 2003 to a terminal server says that you can use the non Enterprise versions of Office as long as the users have individual licenses to use Office, and that is the case here. There are only two Excel users on this machine and both have licenses reserved to this one computer. Is there some trick to getting E…

Setting up DFS?
by Guest WetBehindEars- 0 replies

Im confused. I set the root up as a shared file on DC1. Now do I set up a root target to the other server I want to replicate the data to? Next do I create a link to a folder on DC1 (for example HR) and then I set another target link to the server I want to replicate it to, correct? When I set the link up and tried to set the replication up I get a red X through the main folder I want to replicate to the secondary server. This is what I get: This target is not eligible because the folder overlaps an existing replicated folder on that computer. What does this mean? Could it be because I previously tried this under a different root/link? Do I ne…

Need help understanding avast scan screen
by Guest mspetulia- 4 replies
I installed Avast anti-spyware and when asked if I wanted to do a boot scan, I said yes. When it finished, it said File C:\System Volume Information\_restore{11B4CBBO-31BO-483C-A4FE-D6E9E8C1A928}\RP1461\AO249264,DLL is infected by Win32;Adware-gen. [ADW] It then gives me 11 options, and I don't know which one I'm supposed to choose. Delete; delete all; move; move all; move to chest; move all to chest; repair; repair all; ignore; ignore all; exit. This may be a dumb question, but I've just gotten my system back up and running after a crash involving Norton, and I don't want to mess things up again. Thanks, mspetulia

help - unreadable files with same modified date
by Guest Palmbsea- 2 replies
I recently tried to open a document and found that it was filled with symbols looking like a 'y'. I finally determined that I had a large number of similar documents (word, excell, jpegs, publisher files) that were all unreadable. The file names are all ok (e.g. mydoc.doc for a word file). 1. They were scattered in many folders adjacent to readable files. 2. All unreadable files had the modified date of 05/01/2007 3:35 am (any file with another date was readable; any file of any type with this date was not). 3. The word documents of this type were unreadable with 'recovery' software or word's own recovery system. 4. I have had continuously running and up…

No Sound
by Guest dmoritz- 13 replies

I recently reinstalled Win Xp and for some reason I have no sound. I have a SB Live! sound card installed. When I look in control panel under Sounds and Audio Devices it doesn't show no devices in the volume tab, but lists several under the hardware tab. In Device Mgr. it lists my SB Live! under the Sound, video, and game controllers section, but it lists many other things as well. Could I have some kind of device driver conflict? If so, how would I know? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance for your time and attention to my question.
