I know I have done the ULTIMATE SIN. I screwed with the registry without making a backup. The machine boots fine but won’t allow me to log on, I know where the mistake is (outside of not making a BACKUP). Through the recovery council can I copy the DAT file to another p.c. make my modification than copy it back? If so How?

" A problem on your computer is preventing updates from being downloaded or installed" but what on earth do I look for to determine what !!?? This is on a new Pc - just installed XP, installed the few programs required, nothign out of the ordinary, but ! updates will not work! I did have a problem earlier where it would not install win3.1 if I remember right, plus one other program -this was when we first tried to update - it had to install these before going in for the full w…

Can't Fix IE6?
by Guest Pat- 1 reply

I ran Windows Update for a Windows XP Pro SP2 (with IE6) on my computer that hasn't been connected to the Internet for 2 years. No updates for IE6 show up. When I manually download IE6 updates and try to install, I get a popup that says something like "you must have Internet Explorer 6 to run this update". Well, I have IE6. (I want to install IE7, but not over a bad install of IE6). According to this page, WinXP SP2 doesn't have a repair IE6 capability: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318378 so I have to re-install SP2? Is it safe to re-install? Or will re-installing SP2 cause features of my computer to revert? What's the safest thing to do here?

Where and how do I download and install NTBackup?? I've downloaded 2 files NtBackupRestore_x86.msi and NtBackupRestore_Win64.msi from Microsoft Download Center. Neither installed. One said it was for Vista... and I haven't the slightest idea what the other file said when I tried to install it. James

by Guest talkinggoat- 0 replies

I am trying to make a net use script to add a printer that is attached to another computer. net use lpt1: \\backleft\hplaserbw /persistent:yes It says that the command completed successfully, and show up when I type net use. However, when I run the command, it doesn't show up in the printers/ faxes listing. I can add the printer manually, by right clicking on it and selecting connect, but not with net use.

Since Intel is has released quad core processors will future releases of SBS 2003 and later support quad core technology? I've built a few servers recently using 2 dual core Xeon processors with SBS 2003 standard and from what I've seen it recognizes each core as a physical processor. On Microsofts website it says that SBS 2003 will support 2 "physical" processors but each core to my understanding is not considered a physical processor. Also does anyone know of a patch that will fix this?

Create new certificate Authority - Not Move
by Guest Curious_2k3- 1 reply

Good Morning, I have reviewed the articles at the following addresses: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/298138/en-us http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;555012 However, using the original CA Name is not an option. I will not be trying to import anything from the retiring CA, so this will be a completely new and fresh install on a server with a different name. The main questions I have: 1. Can I create a new certificate authority on the new server with a different name and bring it online without incident? 2. If there are caveats to look for when installing a new CA, what are they? Thanks in advance. Curious

i am having a problem installing activesync 4.1 for my HP IPAQ pda. When i am tryiung to install it i get an internal message stating that Microsoft user SYSTEM has previously initiated an installation for product Microsoft.NETFramework 1.1. I then click on the OK tab, which then brings up a window stating ERROR. An installation for Microsoft .Net Framework 1.1. is currently suspended. You must undo the changes made by that installation to continue. Do you want to undo those changes? I then click yes and …
