easy way to switch *default input language*?
by Guest dspame@yahoo.com- 0 replies

My German girlfriend and I want an easy way to switch between German and English as the *default input language*, as you do with more hassle from the control panel "text services and input languages" menu. The language bar switchis easy but only affects the current window. I need something similar on the desktop to set the default for all future windows I open. There must be a way to do this using VB script and perhaps toggling a registry switch. Does anyone know how?

Protection against rouge use of admin password
by Guest rubberlugs- 1 reply

I know this may be unethical, but I know for a fact that our network techie was stupid enough to give the admin password out to someone who shouldn't have it. I don't believe he would do anything vicious with it like harvest details etc but he would use it for his gossipy fishwife ways. I feel put in a hard position, I don't want to be the local snitch and would rather batten down my hatches so that I am protected. We all leave our machine on overnight and that's when he would remote in and nosey around. Is there anyway I can keep this person out of my machine and that idiot of a techie too? I sometimes remote onto my machine myself for work reasons so don…

I have a computer running Windows XP SP2 that is accessing terminal services using the version of Remote Desktop that came with XP, not the new version. I have been using it for almost 2 years now and all the sudden it freezes up the computer when trying to connect to the server. I have 4 other compters that are working just fine, just this one is having problems. Any suggestions?

DVD burner with Win98FE?
by Guest Dee- 12 replies

I always assumed I couldn't install a DVD burner on my Win98 First Edition machine because every burner I looked at in stores "required" Win98 Second Edition. Then it occurred to me that maybe it's just the bundled software that required SE and it was not some limitation inherent in FE that wouldn't allow a burner to work. So is it true that I could install a burner and use some free software, such as DeepBurner or Express Burn, that works with Win98FE? Thanks, Dee

We currently have a W2003 server acting as a Terminal Server, and are using CommVault to backup the server. Is the Terminal Services connection configuration held within the System State or is there something else I need to be backing up for this information? TIA. Pete.

Hello all, We are currently using Wingate for our proxy server. When the users open a internet browser, a pop up box appears and the user enters there credentials. We have recently reinstalled SBS 2003 and we would like the users to authenticate using the active directory when they log in. I have had a look at the Wingate help files which aren't great but I cant find anything. Hope someone can help or has any suggestions. Cheers

In updating this evening, there was an update to the drivers for Sound Blaster Xfi Extreme Audio, which I retrieved from the site at MS update. This update caused a corruption in the msvcrt module and directshow - an unrecoverable update. I now have to reinstall XP windows. I WILL NEVER TRUST MSUPDATE FOR ANY UPDATES TO HARDWARE!!! -- Lester Stiefel Visit Family Radio Today http://www.familyradio.com/

Hi, This might not be the right group but I try anyway. I know Linksys isn't supported here but I believe I have that setup correctly. What I'm trying to do is: I have a peer-to-peer setup at a main office (all XP Pro OSes), I have two remote sites (both 2000 Pro), the main office has a Linksys router with a VPN solution built in. The remote sites are connected directly to their respective cable modem. I have all firewalls off just for troubleshooting issues. I have 2 computers in the main office that I want the 2 remote sites to connect to. I can connect to one of the computers just fine from both sites using Remote Desktop(not at the same time of course…

i have a box running WinXp pro sp2. each time i try to shut the system down, i get a message saying that windows will install important updates before shutdown, then i get a screen looking like the logging off screen but with a progress message like installing update 1 out of 3.. installing update 2 out of 3.. installing update 3 out of 3.. and it's always 3 updates, what's even more weird is that i get this for all users regardless of the privileges each has. my Norton antivirus detects nothing. is this a normal behavior ?

Server 2008 Beta 3 is CRAP
by Guest Steve-UK- 2 replies

Yeah, I know this is the 2003 Server newsgroup but there doesn't seem to be a specific one for 2008 yet that I can find. This Beta is totally rubbish. I mean it is appallingly bad. I don't expect Betas to work 100% but I expect them to actually do something useful, otherwise why bother with them? First clue this thing might not be of any practical use was the build number: 6001 - isn't that just one along from the Vista RTM? I booted it up, and was presented with Server Manager, which is an integrated MMC for common management tasks. I clicked on "Add Features" and added in what I thought were some fairly innocuous features, consisting of the "De…

Hard drive continues to run out of free space...
by Guest Robert Bodling- 6 replies

I am continually getting out of free space on my system and the worst part is that my main hard drive (c:) is mainly only used for the operating machine... and I've deleted the temp files and any other file I know not needed, but I keep getting the message telling me that I am running low on drive space and that system restorer needs more than 200megs to run and I only have (at times...) only 42 megs available, how do I eliminate enough space without deleting the wrong stuff from my system?
