Return back to 32bit
by Guest Andreas- 4 replies

I am setting up an HP Laptop with AMD Turion processor which didn't have a Windows CD when purchased. During initial setup, I selected the Windows Vista 64x option. Later, I faced many compatibility issues and I want to switch back to 32-bit Vista. There was no cd supplied for HP or Windows. How can I re-install the 32-bit option?. I selected the recovery option of HP but this just wiped off the disc and installed the same 64bit os.

by Guest rAgAv- 8 replies

Hi, My pc keeps shutting down without any warning or anything and when I try to switch on the cpu again, it doesn't even get through the booting process. After sometime, when I try it, it works for about 15 mins and then shuts down again. The temps have been normal cpu - 41 Ambient - 43 remote - 66 HDD - 43 temp1 - 41 Previously it used to restart/show the bluescreen. But, after some days without any problems, now it just shuts down. It can happen any moment now. How can this problem suddenly occur? What do you think I should do? Is it hardware or software related? Do you think reinstalling xp should work? How will I reinstall if it keeps s…

Delete Old Java Before Intsll New Version?
by Guest TMitchell- 7 replies

The Sun web site says not to delete older versions of the Java Runtime Environment (I currently have version 1.4.1.02 on my XP system) before installing a later version (I want to install Version 1.6 -2, the latest version), but I've seen others post that you should delete the older version before installing a newer one. Advice, anyone?

Opening All Users\start menu is very slow
by Guest MRB- 3 replies

I have just installed Windows XP Pro and all the associated updates on my PC. I have also cleaned up my user associated start menus by moving the short cuts to the user accounts I want them to reside. I now notice a 5 second delay when I try to select the All Users\start menu folder from within My Computer (i.e., selecting My Computer, then C:, then Documents and Settings, then All Users, then Start Menu). If I go to it by right clicking the Start menu button on the lower left corner of the screen it is instantaneous. I also get the delay when I use the back arrow key to come out of the Start Menu. This phenomena does not happen with any other user specifi…

I'm using an Amd X2 cpu with a hitachi hard drive 2gb ddr2 ram. I'm getting screen freezes and program crashes regular? If i leave the pc on and walk away 9 times out of ten when i come back the screen has frozen and the mouse is stuck forcing me to reboot? Is it possible these problems would be occuring due to my last installation which went bad, when I tried to fix that installation i used the fixboot command in recovery console could this command have altered my pc's stability? I'm finding alot more crashes on this AMD system compared to previous intel cpu's? Is anyone experiencing the same problems? Is it possible I need a better heatsink? Maybe I shou…

Backups cause server to freeze
by Guest lineone- 2 replies

I have a 2003 server. I can backup anything locally e.g. from one directory of the server to another using robocopy or NT backup. However when I try to back up to either a USB drive on the server with Robocopy or NT backup or using Veritas onto a tape drive on the server or NT backup or Robocopy to a remote computer, the backup fails and all users on the network can't log in. The server is still functional other than it can't see the rest of the network.

LCD MONITOR EYE STRAIN
by Guest LOLL- 6 replies

These monitors are supposed to be easier on the eyes. I find quite the opposite and not just eye strain but headache, mild nausea and mild dizziness. I have heard many people complain about adverse symtoms from these LCD monitors. Anyone else suffering? Any ideas on how to make viewing easier and healthful. These anti glare screens on the market are of no help.

To Begin Click Your User Name
by Guest Tonder- 3 replies

Opps, using Tweak I turned off the only name used on computer, thinking it would avoid this screen which started turning up and requiring me to click on the user name. So as you can guess this dimwit gets the To Begin Click Your User Name screen, there is of course, no name to click on, sooooooo, how do I get around this screen block and get onto the computer so I can go and put Tweak back the way it was. Please do not note this dimwit's error on his personal record! Now if you can tell me how to get past the block, perhaps you can also tell me how to correctly avoid having the To Begin Click Your User Name screen show up. It didn't used to do that…
