Local Profiles on Terminal Server
by Guest Sarah Kingswell- 9 replies

For obvious reasons I would like to change the location of the local user profiles on my Terminal Server. I have several user's connecting to the Terminal server from thin client terminals and I want to move the user profile to a different drive which has more space. I have tried to setup terminal server profiles against the user account but I cannot get this working. I am not be understanding exactly what this does but am I wrong in thinking that I can do away with the profiles in the default c\documents and settings\user.. folders. Any guidance appreciated. -- Solent Carpentry Services Ltd 3 Capel Ley Purbrook Hants PO7 5PU Tel: 02392 782875 Mo…

CALs

Hello all: Our company is a little late updating to 2003 Server. We have two 2000 Servers right now and will be purchasing a 2003 Server very soon. There are roughly 40-50 workstations connecting to these servers (about half 2000 and half XP). Will the CALs for the 2000 and XP OSes work with 2003 Server? Is there anything we need to purchase beyond 2003 Server when we buy the hardware? Thanks.

Local Printing on MS Windows Vista and TS 2003
by Guest Ben- 3 replies

Hi, I've had a problem with a local multifunctional printer/fax/scanner (Canon MP780) not connecting through a TS 2003 session when using MS Windows Vista client. It works fine when using a MS Windows XP Pro client. I've found this to be because of the drivers that are used and the naming of them. Both Microsoft and Canon have said that they don’t think that we can get the device to work so I'm going to purchase a new multifunctional device. Can anyone suggest a multifunctional printer/fax/scanner like the Canon MP780 that they know will print locally through a TS 2003 session when using a MS Windows Vista client? Thanks, Ben

General Share

No "General Share" has never seen any military action ;-) I have a General Network Share where all my users have full access. Some of the sub folders have limited access, all via NTSF permissions. I would like to stop users from creating folders at the root level of this share without effecting my current permissions on the subfolders. Is this possible, What permissions should I set the root share to? I still want to abiliy to have some subfolders havd full access but no to the root share. Is this wise or am I potentially causeing more issues? Adam

How can I redirect stdout and stderr to the same file from a Windows command line? I know how to redirect them to different files: myprog >stdout.log 2>stderr.log but I need them in the same file. Under bash, I would do a myprog 2>&1 >myprog.log Ronald -- Ronald Fischer <ronaldf@eml.cc> Posted via http://www.newsoffice.de/

Copy paste works between my workstation and screens within remote desktop. However, is there a way that I can enable the copy of a rather lengthy password stored on my pc to the remote desktop logon screen? I know it doesn't sound secure, but it would certainly meet my needs. I am using XP Pro.

Question on Remote Desktop Connection
by Guest Jethro- 5 replies

I have two machines and wonder if XP Remote Desktop can be set up so that either one can operate the other. That is, normally one would have a host and one or more remotes. I have what I described before - namely two machines, so-called LEFT and RIGHT. I have Remote Desktop now set up so that the LEFT machine can indeed connect to the RIGHT machine and operate applications etc on the RIGHT machine, all the whilst locking out users on the RIGHT machine. I want to leave that intact, but set up the reverse - namely I want to execute applications on the LEFT machine from the RIGHT machine. Can I do that? I can't seem to get the RIGHT machine to set such a con…

For example, does Windows look in the registry to determine if a driver will be loaded ? Is there a special key responsible for this ? Thank you Al

I have been getting blue screen error stop 0x0000007E (0xC000005,0x805C607B,0xF789E1E8,0x789DEE4). It seems to happen anytime, usually after shutting AOL 9.0vr down not always though. It just started happening two day ago. Usually I just take it back to an earlier good configuration. Can anyone tell me what this stop is and how to fix it. I am running XP home sp2.Please respond
