I have an IBM/Lenovo T43 Notebook, worked fine for first 1+ years that I had it. In the last few months it's decided to have a mind of it's own regarding the mouse. Primarily the problem is experienced when I'm clicking on text and moving the mouse over the text to select it while holding the mouse button down. Sometimes the mouse will just jump halfway across the page, sometimes it just deselects what I was trying to select, sometimes it copy and pastes the text elsewhere while I'm still holding the button down having pressed nothing else. It's finally driving me nutts. I've reloaded the system and replaced the mouse. In addition to reloading the …

Looking for some quota management guidance
by Guest Clint Bergman- 0 replies

Hi all, We run an AD shop on Server 2003 SP2, and have storage quotas setup for some of our NTFS volumes. I'm trying to come up with a solution that will do one of two things: 1) Allow a user X number of grace logins once they have exceeded their storage quota then deny them access with an appropriate error message (less desirable) 2) Deny user a desktop session once they have exceeded their quota limit, instead presenting them with a dialog box (or system, whatever) that will allow them to move/delete files until they are once again within the limits of their storage quota. Once this has been achieved they can again login as normal. Does anyone have a sug…

Server not recognized
by Guest RonC- 2 replies

I have an NT 4.0 computer acting as the domain controller and file server for a small network (4 computers). Only one domain involved. I am trying to install this hard drive into a faster computer. When I do, although the OS boots up and logs on to the domain, the domain cannot fully recognize the file server. WINS Manager sees the server computer name, so does NT Diagnostics, but the Server app in Control Panel shows no sessions, Network Neighborhood shows the domain but no server, and any attempt by other computers to access shares on the server fails. What can I do to resolve this?

I booted the Windows XP CD, and went into the Recovery Console. I started chkdsk with the /r option, and it's taking a very long time. I unsuccessfully tried to stop chkdsk with cntrl-C, cntrl-Z, and cntrl- alt-del. The computer does not have a reset button. How can I interrupt/stop chkdsk? Thanks, Dean

Hello, I have a problem that I need help solving. The computer starts up and I receive a blue screen telling me Windows is stopping the bootup to prevent damage. There is a device driver issue... I can start in Safe Mode, but I cannot startup in Safe Mode with networking. Here is what I have done thus far: - booted from XP CD and ran chkdsk /r - disabled the onboard network adapter - have uninstalled the network adapter from the Device Manager Since the computer starts in Safe Mode, but does not startup with Safe Mode with networking, it leads me to think that it has something to do with the Network Drivers. Can anyone be of help? Thanks in advance, …

Security zones and content ratings
by Guest Jeff- 1 reply

I have to add a server \\servername to the Local intranet zone for all terminal users automatically. After I add the settings to: user configuration\windows settings\internet explorer\ maintenace\security\security zones and content ratings to the Terminal Servers OU which houses the terminal nodes I find it doesn't apply to newly created terminal profiles or old ones. I read that you then have to export the settings, which creates the INS and CAB files. How do I autoapply these to all terminal user profiles? Or is there another way?

Documents and Settings
by Guest Janetb- 6 replies

I am the only one who ever uses my computer. When I switched from 2KPro to XP Pro, installed by a computer technician, he left me with the following folders under Documents and Settings: All Users, Default User, Janet, LocalService, LogMeInRemoteUser, and NetworkService. Under 2KPro, I didn't have a separate user folder named Janet. I was either just Administrator or some such default name. Is this separate Janet folder really necessary? Can't I just be Default User or All Users? I ask because it seems most efficient to have all my settings in one place, and I see that there are entries in the All Users folder and the Default User folder in addition to …
