Switching Users
by Guest Travis King- 2 replies

When we switch users and log on the next user, the screen goes black (still shows a signal) but we can still here the startup sound being played. When we turn off the monitor itself and turn it back on, then it works and we can see the freshly logged on user's desktop. The question here would be is the monitor causing this odd behavior or is it the video card? On their previous computer, they had the same monitor and it did it on their old computer as well, but both computers had a video card made by NVIDIA. The old computer's card was a GeForce3 Ti200 and the new computer's card is a GeForce 6600. I assume it's the monitor that's the problem. Than…

two windows maximized at once?
by Guest A.Translator- 6 replies

I like to have several programmes open, for instance a word processor and a dictionary or browser. I would like to be able to work in my word processor and have the dictionary open at the same time. Now the moment I click the dictionary, the word processor gets minimized to the sys tray. Does anyone know of (free or cheap) software that can achieve this? I know it can be done using two monitors, but I would like to have this on my laptop with only one monitor. Lack of Icon in Task Bar?
by Guest Jethro- 3 replies

What does it mean when the icon showing an application is running does not show in lower right of the Task Bar? Task Manager shows it to be running. I double click on the app-execution Icon and it does nothing (after all it is executing). How do I get it to show again in lower right of Task Bar? I need it there so I can click on it to change an option in it while it is running. Normally I can do that. Thanks Jethro

HTTP Namespace Provider problems?
by Guest Rick O- 0 replies

Sony Vaio notebook, hard disk crash. Replaced hard disk, reloaded XP Pro from recovery CD's, no problem. Loaded SP2, no problem. Downloaded and installed latest updates (95 of them). After reboot, found the unit could not web browse. TCP/IP seems fine, can ping whatever OK. Disabled firewall and virus protection, no change. Ran IE 7's "Diagnose Connection Problems..", returned with "HTTP blocked...possible firewall...etc". Looked at the Application Log, found a number of errors from "System.ServiceModel.Ins", among them the last error was "HTTP Namespace reservations not installed." I suspect this is either a direct of indirect cause of the proble…

Printers Not Redirecting and Deleting Properly
by Guest jbell94521- 4 replies

I have a Windows XP Home PC that is connecting to a Microsoft Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition terminal server via RDP over IP. When this client logs off the terminal server, the printers that were "created" on the server to redirect his local printers do not get deleted. I have never seen this before - all other clients who connect to this server have their printers deleted when they log off. Then when this client logs on again, he winds up with duplicate printers in his terminal server session, with the result that applications get confused and printing fails. Any idea how to remedy this? I'm stuck! Thanks! -- jbell94521

Activation form
by Guest Moses- 3 replies

An activation form keeps coming up on start up. It claims my copy of Windows was activated by another user. I am supposed to reactivate my Windows XP. It is also asking me for my credit card number although it says I will not be billled. Is this a legit Windows prompt, or is it a internet based scam of some sort. The Windows XP is installed on the one home computer and the product key sticker is on the case, so no one else could have gotten it. The computer was bought about two years ago, with no problem before.
