Can't start the Intel PDS service Error 1053
by Guest Tom Wall- 1 reply

I have a 2000 server that I installed the latest patches on over the weekend 10/26. I am now receiving a message that the Intel PDS service could not start. Here is the error it occurs when Windows tries to start it at boot and if I manual try to start it. "Could not start the Intel PDS service on Local Computer; Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion." The service is set to automatically start. I have looked online for this specific error and only found two postings neither provided solutions.

Hello !! I'm trying to set the MTU value of a new PC -- dual boot, Linux & Windows -- and the lan card, the adsl modem, etc. Since I'm not so bright, I went online to check. The more I check, however, the more I got confused. On this page http://help.expedient.com/broadband/mtu_ping_test.shtml ( scrolling down to #5 where it ) says "Add 28 to that number (IP/ICMP headers) to get the optimal MTU setting" On this page, http://www.speedguide.net/read_articles.php?id=157 however, ( scrolling down to TCPWindowSize ) it is telling me that "MSS is generally MTU - 40 (20 byte TCP and 20 byte IP headers)" ! Which one is correct? Just exactly how much do…

He, I installed a ticket printer on the remote workstation and in the printer properties I set that the printer needs to print a logo stored in the printer-memory and also the cash draw must be opened. If I print via local software this works (test-page). When I print via de remote session, only the ticket is printed. The logo is not printed and the cash draw is not opened. Where do I set the properties for the printer ? Server : Windows SBS 2003 SP2 Workstation : Windows XP Pro SP2 Thanks Luc

iTunes download screwed up my PC
by Guest dubiousraves- 2 replies

Hi. I have a Compaq Presario running Windows XP. I just downloaded the latest version of iTunes, and it's wrecked my CD/ DVD functionality. (This happened to me once before, too, but I thought it was a broken Optical drive, so I installed a new one.) The only thing that works now is playing songs in the iTunes library. If I try to play a CD or DVD, there's a ticking sound, and distortion. This is true even if I used a different player from iTunes. If I try to upload a CD into iTunes, iTunes does it, but at about 1/15th the normal speed, and all other computer functions are slowed down drastically while the upload is occurring. Any ideas on fixing this? …

WMI invalid class error
by Guest RigB- 0 replies

I use the command 'wmic product' to list the installed software on either the local or a remote computer. It works most of the time on x32 systems but when I use it on XP x64 or server 2003 x64 systems I get an Invalid class error 0x80041010. Same story when using WMI in a script. Does anyone know what the story is with x64 versions of Windows (Vista x64 works!). Another namespace maybe? Thanks, Tom Gilmour Tecsult Inc.

Windows Logon

Hi I am using XP home edition I used to be able to boot up and go straight to the desktop without having to go to the logon or select a user screen. For some reason, I now go to the small "windows logon screen" where I can just click OK and I then move onto the desktop screen. I know there is a way to bypass and stop the logon screen coming up but can't remeber how to do it. Can anyone help please. Regards

Hi, Something weird has started happening to my computer. When I shut down I click Start > Turn Off Computer > Turn Off, but I have to do it twice. The first time you can hear the computer “thinking” then nothing happens. The second time everything shuts down normally. This has just started within the last couple months or so. I have not had any infections/malware/spyware. The only thing that was found on my computer by Malwarebytes was Adware.PopCap. Does anyone know how to fix this. Thanks. Dell Inspiron B130 - Windows xp Pro (SP-2) (more than one user account) It seems no matter how often I check "always take this action" (which I selected as take no action) Whenever I insert a CD or DVD into the drive, I get the same dialog AFTER "Auto play" searches the disks for several seconds. Is there a bug and or fix for this. Thanks.

High CPU Usage After KB958644
by Guest jason.hill- 0 replies

Hi, We installed the critical update KB958644 on a Windows Server 2008 machine 2 days ago and have experienced a massive increase in CPU utilisation, apparently for the System process. Our performance monitor reports typically showed the web server running in the 5-15% CPU utilisation range for the whole day even under fairly heavy load. For the last 2 days, the CPU graph now looks like an earthquake has hit and we have had to reboot the server both days to reset the CPU to normal. Today, the graph was showing 90%+ CPU utilisation and we were not able to RDP to the box and all web sites were non-responsive so had to get the ISP to do a hard reboot. The grap…

can't find server by address, but can by name
by Guest dave64- 2 replies

Hi. We had an SBS 2003 server crash dues to a problem with a RAID controller card. This is the controller for our network. Problem is fixed. Almost everything works well. A while ago a Windows server 2003 was added to run an appllicaton. All has worked well with it and the network. Now, after the outage earlier, we can see server2 in the network neighborhood just like before. However when we try to run the app it fails saying it cannot find the server. When the app was installed they pointed to it by address - 192.168.16.3\somewhere. In trying to see what is and is not working, we tried the old standby Start -> Run \\192.168.16.3 from a couple…
