ODBC Servername reverts to old servername once I click OK
by Guest Aaron J- 0 replies

Hi All, We're currently experiencing some issues with ODBC connectivity in Windows 2003. Basically when I define an OBDC String for example for SQL Server and populate the following details as follows: Select System DSN Click Add Select SQL Server Enter Name, Description and Servername e.g. SQLSERVER01 Then select TCPIP Test Connection OK Then after a couple of hours the SQL Servername loses the SQLSERVER01 and reverts back to the previous Servername of the above DSN Previously used and deleted. i.e. Servername reverts to: OLDSERVER in ODBC. Thanks in advance, Aaron Jumani.

Everyone Group

Hi Folks Query relating to the "everyone group (Pre Windows 20000)." We have a Windows 2003 domain which was upgraded from Windows NT 4.0. I am aware under windows 2003 that the membership of the everyone was changed so that it no longer contains the token for anonymous. It seems that newly created users are no longer automatically added to the everyone group but they are added to the "domain users" group. However the "everyone" group is still the default group set on permissiosn tabs (Shares ETC) Question: So is it best practice to 1) Manally add all individual domain users to the "Everyone Group" 2) Clear all users from the "Everyone G…

Windows Server Standard vs. Enterprise
by Guest UWide User- 6 replies

Hello, I have installed Windows Server 2003 x64 Standard on a dual socket Quad Core Blade. My app administrator has already installed Sql 2005 Enterprise. Being that this is the first 8 core system I had ever installed, I forgot that Windows Server standard only uses 4CPU's while enterprise can handle 8CPU's. In this situation does this still hold true? Or is it the number of sockets that is important? Basically I would like to know whether I need to upgrade the OS and if so can I just do an in-place upgrade as we have production code on it now? Thank you for your help! ----------- Anyone who knows everything, leads a pretty boring life

Need Help with Microsoft Management Console (MMC)
by Guest Jethro- 2 replies

I have two machines, one on my left and one on my right. By design I have named the machines LEFT and RIGHT :<) The machines are LAN'ed together via a router and are able to share each others folders in their root directories just fine. So my network must be set up okay. I want to try using Remote Management, and am trying to set up MMC to do so. On LEFT machine, I brought up MMC (via command line) and went to 'Add/Remove Snap-in', clicked on 'Add', and added 'Local Users and Groups'. It asked me to name the computer I wanted to manage and so I wanted to choose machine RIGHT. So I chose 'Another computer' and 'browse'. I then clicked on 'Advance' a…

WSUS 3 - showing computers but only one at a time
by Guest Ehren- 6 replies

Hello- I have a very strange issue that I have never seen before and wonder if anyone else has any experience with it. We have several computer labs here, each with 10-12 computers. We have a main domain, call it "maindomain" and then we have a separate domain for the labs ... call it "teaching". The WSUS server is in the maindomain and obviously the lab computers are in the teaching domain. In my head this shouldnt be an issue because you just configure the computers via group policy to point to the wsus server and it really doesnt matter what domain its in because its http (right?). To save myself dns hasstles I configured automatic updates via…

Re: How do I format a CD-RW? I am trying to write files to a CD-RW fresh out of the wrapper. It says there are 0 files and 0 space. Also get an error message telling me to insert a disk. I know the drive works. It reads disks I previously have made on it. What gives? "Glen" wrote: > You only have to format if you want to use packet writing software. Hello all: I have a newly installed domain controller for a client of mine that I'm having a problem with, and am hoping I can get some good advice on tracking down the problem. This is for a small office, with about 8 computers total. This server is the first domain controller, as previously the network was set up with all stand-alone computers. It's a custom built box running Windows 2003 Small Business Server SP2. Hardware specs are AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+ with 2GB RAM. The problem I'm trying to solve is Event ID 1054 appearing in the Application Log every 5 minutes like clockwork, for the last few months now. Event Type: Error Event Source…

How to assign application to computer
by Guest el- 6 replies

Hi all, I am new to use group policy to deploy application to desktops or users. The application I used to try was Office Compatibility Pack 2007. I had tried several different ways to assign it to several desktops. The common works I had done for the different tries were: 1.. Created a new Deploy Application OU under MyDomainName domain in Active Directory Users and Computers (ADUC) 2.. Created a new MS Office Compatibility Pack 2007 OU under Deploy Application OU 3.. Created a new assign group policy called Assign to computers in Properties window of MS Office Compatibility Pack 2007 OU and have the MSI file and other settings entered I then use differen…

My customer writes me with an error which is constantly there. She writes: "A message comes on the screen after booting up. This message has a large red X in a cricle. In bold letters it says Windows-No disk Then below that it says Exception processing message c00000013 paramets and then three sets of numbers all beginning with 75. Below that are three buttons which state: Cancel, Try Again, Continue. None of these buttons work and the message stays in the middle of the screen. If I shut down the computer and then re-boot the message returns! Now what is the problem?" Not sure what is happening here, or she isn't explaining anything correctly to …

Access denied on a particular file
by Guest Muzzzy- 9 replies

Hi, I'm running a Win2003 R2 server with AD (at home for file sharing); yesterday i decided to do a backup by just copying the D: drive onto a 1 TB external drive. On one file it gave "Access denied" error and so far I can't find a way to get rid of it: 1. I'm running as a user with admin rights, but still i changed ownership of the file to myself - didnt help; 2. I checked if file is locked by a process (which would be weird as this file is not used - it's a part of an old archive) - none. 3. I ran couple of different antiviruses overnight - none 4. Ran chkdsk - didn't find any problems I need to note that problem exists if i try to do anything with…
