Windows Server 2003 Scheduled Task Logon Account Issue
by Guest Anna_Stephanie- 1 reply

We have a scheduled task setup in Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition with SP2. The task runs an exe file (which was written in VB) which creates an Excel file and then sends it as an e-mail attachment to specified recipients. When we use the domain administrator account to run the task it works. When I specify a different account (scheduledtaskuser) to run the task, it fails. The scheduledtaskuser is a member of the domain admins group and the server's local admin group, has full control to the directory in which the exe sits and has all activation and launch permissions to the Micrososft Excel Application in DCOM. Help!

I have a problem installing XP on my desktop machine using my original XP CD that was pre-service pack 1. The CD install routine asks for a service pack one CD which I found was not downloadable on my laptop using the MS online site. There is a small exe file there that is related to SP 1. My laptop OS doesn't need it since it has SP 2 so it doesn't end up downloading anything. I may have to reinstall the desktop since I used the laptop's complete XP CD that had SP 1 and SP 2 and the activation isn't taking it for the original CD. Does anyone have any suggestions for this? For more information, during the install, it asks for a SP 1 CD and won't go an…

Is there anything I can do to be able to automatically open these documents. Thanks Mardler C

XP Activation question
by Guest 3dgomerfan- 2 replies

I purchased a used computer that had Windows XP pre-installed (originally by the manufacturer) and it is prompting to activate windows. I called Microsoft to activate, and they confirmed the Software key was valid, but they couldn't activate it. It seemed like the Installation ID Code that was on the activation screen wasn't working or correct. They told me to contact the manufacturer to see if they could turn off the activation screen somehow or pay for Microsoft tech support. I contacted the Manufacturer, who of course said they couldn't activate a Microsoft program. Any ideas or suggestions of how to get this thing activated?

Trace how users access files (i.e. mapped drive or UNC)?
by Guest John- 0 replies

Is there any way to do this? I need to redo our folder structure and I'd like to find out if anyone is accessing files/folders via UNC rather than our mapped drives (per the login script). Wasn't sure if there was something on the server (auditing) or if I would have more luck from info on the client. If at all? Thanks in advance!

Terminal Services and Windows Datacenter Server 2003
by Guest jim- 4 replies

I would like to host an application (combination of TS and Citrix) on a machine with 32 CPU's and 128GB of Physical RAM using Windows Data Center 2003., I know I have to use SPLA for TS Licensing, but now I'm being told I cannot use Datacenter because it is for anonymous not authenticated access. How than, do I scale to 32 processors and 128GB of RAM ? Can I get some Datacenter Licensing clarity here please ?

Ok, I'm new with servers be patient with me. I have my latest MS Action Pack gear and I've been aching to install Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard x64 - but frankly didn't have the hardware here to support it. But as luck would have it I seem to have a spare AM2 Sempron 3000+ in stock, a motherboard to run it and 1GB of RAM and a 40GB HDD - and I'm thinking of using this lot to build myself a server mainly so I can educate myself....hook up two or three client machines to it and spend a while getting my head around it hopefully. I know the AM2 Sempron is probably not the ideal chip for Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard x64 - but I figure it will work - …

Position of Displays in XP

I have a Dell Laptop with secondary screen attached. Everytime I unplug the screen from the laptop and reconnect the screen the position defaults to the right of the primary laptop screen. I have to manually move it to the top and enable it. I have to do this about 5 times a day due to work. Was wondering if anyone had a reg. entry to change the default position of the secondary screen or even a batch file i can click on to set position.

hi, i'm in urgent need for a quick solution to save a server. my winlogon.exe is corrupted yet i am still able to login the server. the current sbs2003 sp1 doesn't have a valid license installed on it and it's asking to activate within the next 5 days (what happens after, is it still possible to activate)? i've bought a new sbs2003 license just to be able to install the new license on top of it. so i need to change the current license and activate the new one. and also try to fix that winlogon.exe file which seems to be corrupted. when i login it pops up a message that says so. any help would be appreciated and any advice on what to do next. i really want to try…
