Hi eveybody, Before, we used to have a windows 2000 as our domain controller and it was the terminal server too, and we can RDC to this server. Then, we got a new server, installed win 2003 server 'migrated' our 2000 domain to a 2003 domain and right now they are co-existing. We did this because we need to move our application from the win 2000 server to the new 2003 server. Right now users are connecting to the 2000 server using using terminal server without any problems. I have already installed terminal server and its licenses on the new win 2003 server but when i try to connect using RDC i'm getting the error: "To log on this remote computer, you mu…

Using an older Scanner/Twain Driver with Windows XP
by Guest Carl Bergstrom- 0 replies

I have a SCSI scanner (Relisys) and connected an Adaptec AVA-2906 Fast SCSI PCI card in the appropriate expansion slot. I loaded the scanner driver from a CD I purchased (and downloaded the Adaptec Driver for Windows, version 4.71) from the web. My PC uses Windows XP Media Center edition. I am using Presto Image Folio which I installed from a CD. I have 2 problems. First, when I turn on the scanner and then the computer, the computer tells me I have new hardware installed (the SCSI card and scanner) and that I must load the driver. This program does not recognize the scanner driver from the CD, or from the hard drive when I copy it from the CD or from the …

Trouble with TS on Server 2003
by Guest Andy \(Andrew\)- 3 replies

We have a Server 2003 machine that was put into Application mode. After that, we installed a few programs using the Control Panel's Add/Remove procedure (presumably placing it temporarily into "install" mode) and we've discovered some intractable problems. For example, one of the applications is Time Matters. Among other things, it keeps track of documents. If one user opens one of these PDF's from within Time Matters, it properly opens Acrobat Reader (which was also installed in "install" mode) and the document is displayed. However, if another user tries the same thing (not at the same time,) they get an AcroRd32 crash saying "memory cannot be written." …

Process-dependent automatic opening of specific file in Word
by Guest Herbert Eppel- 6 replies

My Translation Memory software produces intermediate tab-delimited txt files, which I open in MS Word (and temporarily convert to a table via a macro) for reviewing purposes. I wonder if there is some (relatively straightforward?) way of implementing a procedure that would check whether txt export subprocess is finished and then open the exported txt file in MS Word (and run the conversion macro)? -- Herbert Eppel http://www.HETranslation.co.uk

rendom /list and domainlist.xml
by Guest Jake- 2 replies

Hi, I'm in the process of renaming a domain from mydomain to mydomain.local. When I do a rendom /list I see that domainlist.xml's NetBIOS names are empty, except for the last record (ForestRoot) where I find: DNSName=mydomain and NetBIOSname=MYDOMAIN In my case, should I fill in NetBIOSname=MYDOMAIN in all four records and change the other fields from mydomain to mydomain.local? Thanks a lot for comments on this. regards Jake

Allowing more than 2 connections to 2003 R2 box
by Guest Mike- 3 replies

Hi I am currently allowing external users to run applications remotely on a 2k3 r2 server via VPN and RDP. The 2 users rule is becoming a problem as there are more people who need to connect than that. The applications that are used (I have been advised by the developers) do not and are not ever likely to be compatibly with application mode. Is it possible to extend the amount of people who are able to connect to the TS in admin mode by purchasing licenses for them? Many Thanks

Highly compressed zipping
by Guest Maurice IRL- 9 replies

I want to send a Microsoft Access database (.mde) file in highly zipped format to the developer of a system based on Access. The email server has a limit of 5MB, but the 22MB file is almost 6MB when compressed with WinZip, XP Zip and several other zipping programs. The developer regularly zips and sends even bigger files (over 30MB) with XP Zip, which compress to less than 4MB. The developer also receives similar large files from customers using XP Zip. The question is: why won't XP Zip give me a better compression rate? -- Maurice
