Time Synchronization
by Guest pjm- 1 reply

I am running Windows Server 2003 on my server and Windows XP on 7 desktops that are networked. The time on the desktops synchronize with the server since they are members of the domain. I have a non-Microsoft program that occasionally requires me to change the date on the desktops. Is there anyway I can change the date on a domain desktop and not have it automatically synch with the server?

RE: CHKNTSF results I ran CMD. Then issued command: CHKNTSF C: Result: The type of file system is raw. What does this mean and is it normal? Seems that I cannot run CHKDSK /F because of this result. I am suspicious of the Disk Drive and don't know what to try next. Any help would be greatly appreciated I am running Windows XP Pro -- Bill W

copy photo file or folder to cd
by Guest shaun- 0 replies

In "my pictures" when I try to "copy to cd" the cd writing wizard begins and tells me the process takes about 8-9 minutes. Near the end the last 2-3 minutes takes closer to 5 then it kicks out my cd and tells me there is an "error in the writng process". I copied some photos once before so I know my cd-rw drive is enabled. I've also tried right clicking on the photo file and using the Select Send To..CD drive option . It tells me there is no cd in the drive. I've tried numerous cd and cd-rw disks. Am I missing a step or do I have a bug? Thanks for any help.

Help on "Missing Profile Windows XP"
by Guest David- 3 replies

I started XP pro today and received the msg. "Windows cannot load your profile because it may be corrupted" error logging in Now when I log into my account, the system thinks all of my user files are in "c:\Documents and Settings\TEMP\" rather than the "c:\Documents and Settings\david" directory. I know how to repair this issue, but I am wondering if this is an indication of a larger problem. Eg. is a repair of the profile sufficient or should I reinstall XP before more issues surface. Thanks

When I've installed Euro patch for NT3.51 (standalone) or NT4 (SP6) on corresponding NT systems, they started to miss MS Sans Serif font for icon titles (in Explorer/Progman) and for list boxes (everywhere). It began to look like very small and ugly Arial font. Has anyone met this problem before?

Sound Problems
by Guest ColTom2- 4 replies

Hi: I have a Sony desktop VGC-RA716G with Windows XP MCE2005 SP3 and all updates installed. Have a Sound Max Integrated Digital Audio. I don't know it this is integrated with motherboard or is a separate sound card? Sounds as if it possibly is integrated with MB? I have lost all abilities to play any sound files from either internal or external source. However, I am getting a bleed through on my speakers with sorta cracking or bumping sounds. I have checked all speaker connections etc, but still no sound from sound files. If I recall I think that I heard the noise that I now hear previously to some degree when playing sound files recently. …

storport.sys problem after SP2
by Guest Jonathan Eshel- 9 replies

Hello, I have a problem with access to SAN drives after applying SP2 to Windows 2003 Enterprise. The HBA is an Emulex LP982 with a storport driver. After applying SP2 the server lost access to 3 out of the 4 disk drives assigned to it. Further tests revealed that LUNs translated to 7 or lower are still accessible, and only 8 and higher are no longer accessible. I am prettry sure the problem lies with the storport.sys Microsoft driver, as I tried to copy the older version (I know - not a good practice - only for troubleshooting purposes) of the file over the SP2 (and hotfix - see below) version and everything was back to normal. Moreover, I found there …

Terminal server connection temporarily hangs
by Guest steve- 0 replies

Hello We have just deployed an application to our users using Windows 2003 terminal services. As far as I can tell, all of our timeout values for idle/disconnected sessions seem to be working fine. The only problem is that when users work on other applications for a while and leave the terminal app idle (for maybe 30 minutes or more), the terminal app is frozen/hung for 30 seconds or so when they return to it. For instance, they will click a menu in the terminal application and nothing will happen. If they do nothing and wait for 20 seconds or so, all the sudden the menu appears and everything works as it should. No notification from the terminal server a…

Sidebar Question

Hey gang, On my Vista Ultimate 64 bit, I have recently started using the sidebar. I have 4 gadgets currently running on the sidebar, and have it set on my secondary monitor. I recently looked in task manager, at my running programs/processes, and noticed it lists two sidebar.exe's running. Is that normal, for there to be two of these running? Just curious. Thanks, -- Don

I use netscape composer for ftp stuff, having a problem. Because it needs to write to a temp folder. I think I found the problem in that the netscape folder has read only clicked. I tried unclicking and applying but it does not stay? I tried safe mode in admin mode with no luck tried doing individual folders with no luck when I click the apply, doesn't so anything I know in previous versions it would sift the files and folders and unlock them? thanks Bruce

Print Management Questions(s).

Hello All: Our forest level is Windows 2003 R2, schema version is 31. # 1). Installation requirement is for computers running Windows 2003 R2, is x64 allowed? #2). Quote: "Print Management can automatically search for and install network printers on the local subnet of your local print server" When I tried to execute the "Automatically Add Network Printers" command, it does not find any printers. I am assuming that's it's searching for printers on the local subnet, but all printers are located on other subnets/VLANs. Although, the Windows 2000 print server is located on the local subnet. How can I expand the search? #3). I configued…

If I reboot, I am fine for a few hours, then no page opens again. Firefox opens pages fine, as well as e-mail (Outlook) works fine. Started with IE7 I upgraded to IE8 Beta, still the same thing. I can open local pages on my PC, but not on the web. If I go to Tools-->Connections-->LAN settings IE locks up and must be closed with Task Manager. I have uninstalled IE7 and re-installed, same issue. Working within a home LAN, all other PCs work fine. All security settings at default levels. What is my 1394 Connection? Windows seems to have added it as some virtual connection, I tried disabling it, but same issues, it is back on now, but why??
