Windows XP keeps freezing up
by Guest Rich- 0 replies

I am running XP Pro, about a week ago (no new programs added) my computer would start freezing up sometimes but not always which makes it even more confusing. Usually but not always it's as I launch a program, try to exit a program or when I try to exit windows itself.. I try Ctrl + alt+del and something in the background changes (like behind the frozen program I cannot get out of, I can see my desktop appear behind the program)....windows task manager MAY appear, if does at that time it too may lock up. Whenever this 'freeze' occurs I cannot leave windows, I have to shut off the power. Other times windows task manager doesn't appear at all.....and yet …

Windows keeps reloading without rebooting
by Guest Jim Ormsbee- 5 replies

I don't know how to describe this, but my computer keeps reloading without rebooting. It does not shutdown. Rather the desktop is emptied of all icons, the toolbar disappears, and then everything is reloaded. This will happen continuously if the mouse pointer is on the desktop. If the pointer is on the toolbar or an open window, most things seem to work. I can use my keyboard to load programs and run them, but I have to be very careful with the movement of my mouse. I reinstalled the mouse driver with no changes. I checked the other devices in the Device Manager and saw no errors except one audio controller warning. My mouse is a Microsoft Intellimouse …

Task did not execute
by Guest KCav- 0 replies

Yesterday I scheduled a Disk Cleanup for 3am. When I booted the notebook this morning an error message said, " task did not execute at sheduled time ... Task Scheduler not running." I went to run and entered cleamgr.exe, and pressed enter. The program executed. Then I went to Services and found that Task Scheduler had started automatically. I wonder, why didn't Disk Cleanup run last night? I went to the properties page for Disk Cleanup and found it was enable to start at a specified time. The scheduled time was 3:12am daily to begin 7/23/2007; the Power Management setting was "Wake the computer to run this task." I wonder what could be preventing Ta…

Why new data to my \Temp ?
by Guest Will- 1 reply

In my Mce 2004 XP SP2 \local settings\temp file, have recently been getting new/questionable additions for various including this newsgroup. They are read only "www1F.tmp" (hex count is incrementing over time); containing for example: [DEFAULT] BASEURL=http://www.microsoft.com/athome/default.mspx [DOC_pagetools] XMLUSERDATA__Size=720D00007F XMLUSERDATA=3C0...etc.. (on and on for 8K) I would like to know why this is happening, or how to prevent it. Seems mainly to be coming from Microsoft.

Assigning virtual IPs per user
by Guest mark@vk.net- 1 reply

Hi, I know this can be done on Citrix, but I need to do it on native Terminal Server. It is it possible to have a pool of addresses that are assigned to Windows Terminal Server users so that when they launch client/server apps they use a unique IP address. For example, server has a bunch of addresses bound to it's interface 10.1.1.1 10.1.1.2 10.1.1.3 10.1.1.4 10.1.1.5 10.1.1.6 10.1.1.7 10.1.1.8 10.1.1.9 Remote user #1 logs in and when they open a browser connection to server another server, their source ip address for that connection is 10.1.1.1 Remote user #2 logs in and when they open a browser connection to server another server, their source…

by Guest Taxed Mind- 4 replies

With Win XP I am obviously backing up all that can be found in My Documents, I have my Outlook.pst file and I have exported my Bookmarks from IE. Am I missing anything other than specific program settings that I can redo on reinstallation? Would any standard programs save stuff outside My Docs? Any help is much appreciated. I am burning everything on to DVDs and am not using any specific backup software. Thanks for your help, much appreciated.

FTP service and Windows Firewall on Server 2003
by Guest Viktor Jevdokimov- 3 replies

Hi all, Environment: - Windws Server 2003 R2 Standard Edition Service Pack 2 - IIS with FTP service - Windows Firewall enabled, TCP ports 21 and 20 are enabled both on exceptions list and on connection. Problem: "Connection closed by remote host." right after user name is entered when connecting from outside. When testing locally on the server or when Windows Firewall is disabled - everything is fine, no problems. When Firewall is enabled, connection from outside just drops right after user name is entered. IIS log file shows 421 FTP status and 121 win32 status. How to configure Windows Firewall properly for FTP service to work from outside? …

Logon screen gone
by Guest bbacker- 1 reply

Hello all, One of our windows 2003 servers is having a strange issue. After running well for some days it suddenly stops displaying the logon screen to logon. Only the grey desktop background remains. Its also unreachable over the network and does not respond to PING requests. AD functionality like user logon verification and replication traffic stops working from this DC to other DC's in the same domain. Sometimes the server happens to do this after 2 days, sometimes after a week, so there is no real pattern in it. Only pattern in it, is that it happens just after the backup has been finished successfully (we use Tivoli backup software). Server is Window…

Pulling internet use logs from Win 2003 Server
by Guest rv2021- 3 replies

Is there a way to pull a log of what websites where visited by certain IPs or users? I know there are software programs that detail the urls, minutes on the page, and other things. But what I am looking for is a way to pull some of the same information if not all of it from just the existing Win 2003 Server software.
