Networking shares problem!!
by Guest BigAl.NZ@gmail.com- 3 replies

Hi Guys, There is a simple solution to this i am sure. There is a network with about 5 PC's on it connected to a router. No Domain controller etc. Most of the PC's are set to workgroup MSHOME, and one PC which acts as a file server is on WORKGROUP. All the PC's can access the share on the file server called \ \p4server. The full name of the share is \\p4server\Data. Now for some reason we have added a laptop to the network, and cant access the share. I can ping the file server ok. When I try to map the network drive with net use , or by browsing the workgroup, I get "Workgroup MSHOME is not accessable etc etc" Anyone have any ideas why not? It…

Clean Boot?
by Guest Jim- 13 replies

What is the importance of disabling the Config.sys and Autoexec.bat screens in msconfig.exe? Some computers will not start without Config.sys. Also, when creating a "clean environment" in Diagnostic selection for analysis the Config.sys and Autoexec.bat are enabled and the System.ini and Win.ini are disabled. Using step-by-step confirmation technique and not enabling the Config.sys and Autoexec.bat as part of the analysis. I recently performed this procedure when referring to kb891711 and the mouse behavior. tia

I am trying to boot virtual guest from phisical disk (under VMWARE) and I receive STOP: 0x0000007B (teh same is with guest Windows XP 64bit, Win Server 2008 64 bit and Vista 64 bit). I think I need SCSI drivers (propably LSI because only LSI is avaible when we use phisical disk). Moreover how to install these drivers (I can boot this machine normally without virtualization and it is working OK)? Is any posibility to add this drivers to the system when I have access to the filesystem and system? -- ahtung cross post

2003 server 100% cpu, unmanageable.
by Guest gscanga- 3 replies

I have a system (dc actually) that spikes at 100% cpu and stays that way. I can't get any information whatsoever on the system when it does this (ie, pslist to check cpu processes, mmc to check event logs, RDP to remotely view, etc.) Several times, I've waited 15-20 minutes for a console session to display with no luck. So, after I cold-boot the machine, I check the event logs and can't find anything. is there something that I can proactively setup and let run that will grant me better insight into what may be happening when or prior to cpu spikes? Perhaps perfmon? Thanks.

Temporary Internet Files

Hello, When I use Windows explorer to look at the contents of TIF on my PC I see dozens of objects -- cookies, GIFs, ICOs, HTMs, etc. When I open a command prompt in the same folder, the dir command only lists 3 folders: AntiPhishing, Content.Outlook, and FrontPageTempDir. I'm mystified because none of these appear in explorer, and none of explorer's files appear in the directory list. Can anyone explain this to me? I'm using XP with SP2 installed and have no files or extensions hidden by default.

I have a HP Pavilion zv5000 laptop with Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition. My mouse has locked up and I cannot get my mouse to move. I do not have an external mouse, I only have the mousepad. I have rebooted numerous times but have been unsuccessful in unlocking my mousepad. I have played with the mousepad key but with no success. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, what did you do?

I installed Oracle sometime ago and then uninstalled. However, I noticed there are still some Oracle related services left: Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services, however I got no ways to remove but only disable it.
