No Control of Scrolling and Cursor
by Guest Stringed- 2 replies

My Sony VAIO notebook suddenly has become unusable. When I click on the left touchpad clickerwhile the pointer is on the scroll bar, the page should move downwards. It DOESN'T. The page jumps back to the top immediately after releasing the click button. That happens as well using the arrow buttons. They work momentarily but immediately, the screen scrolls to the top of a web page. Also, when I try to type into a box, the cursor jumps to the left extreme, causing words to form backwards. Finally, on the desktop, the highlight defaults to the upper left icon. I cannot select and click on any other icon. As soon as I highlight another icon, the highli…

Hi folks... I notice a strange issue here. When I try to watch a particular website video stream in my computer I cannot hear any sound if I'm logged with a non-admin user account. I have a Windows XP Pro English and IE7 and WMP 11 fully patched system. It doesn't matter whether I'm using IE or Firefox, if I log in my admin account I can watch the video and hear the sound without problems, but with my non privileged user account I can just watch the video without sound. I notice this with videos from this website: http://noticias.uol.com.br/uolnews/ It's a Brazilian website. In order to provide examples, here are some direct links for the videos f…

In XP..... When I click on a folder on desktop, or either in "My Computer" or "Windows Explorer" on a folder on the right side of the screen, it'll prompt me for a "Search" when it use to just open the folder like I would want. Right clicking on the folder has "Search..." listed first and it use to be "open" I tried to create a .txt file listing everything in a folder directory, I created a .bat file and something didn't work. I went into to delete the setting for the .bat file in registry and I believe I may have altered something. Could someone please help me and tell me how to set things back to the way they were.

3 weeks ago I installed a new hard drive. I also re-installed Win Xp home edition from the xp disc that came with my Emachines pc. Playing Cd's and burning cdr's works fine. But my computer won''t read or write dvd's. When I look in (My Computer) it says I only have a Cd drive. It use to say cd/dvdrw drive. The system won't recognize anything but cd's. The drive in my computer is a Samsung Tsstcorp cd/dvdw ts h552b. Any tips to resolving this issue are greatly appreciated.

start-run command screen disappears
by Guest Craig in Connecticut- 4 replies

I've used XP for several years, but have never had this type of problem on my pc. I go to Start, then Run, and enter either msconfig or ipconfig, only to have the black pop up screen disappear almost instantly, without allowing me to view any data. If I use the long route, and go to Start, Programs, Accessories, Command Prompt, then and only then will the black screen stay open and allow me to view the data. What is wrong with my system all of a sudden, and what can I do to fix it?

Damaged XP's recovery from Hibernation?
by Guest Richard- 0 replies

Hi All, I'm an avid fan of hibernation. I powering up a computer from a hibernation state is so much faster than allowing a re-boot. Today, however, I managed to screw up my recover. I keep an external hard-drive off-line (merely by keeping it switched off) except when I want to back-up or recover something from it. I switched it on today to either before or while I was recovering from hibernation. The adverse symptom I got was that AVG Free Edition's Control Center reports on component "Anti-Virus" that "Component is registered correctly; however determining status failed with error code 0x81000002." More significantly, running selected test repor…
