Advice on upgrading domain server and exchange server
by Guest David M. Wolff- 0 replies

I was just looking for some general advice and possible links to white papers that might help me. My network (12 server and 300 workstations) is currently running a windows 2000 domain controller and exchange 2000. I would like to upgrade to a Windows 2003 (64 bit) domain controller and Exchange 2007. Would it be better to upgrade my domain controller before my exchange server? Are there any concerns about running adprep on my windows 2000 domain server so I can add a windows 2003 backup domain controller? Once I have a windows 2003 backup domain controller can I just promote to be my primary domain controller? Are their any problems I should anticipate? …

Screen graphics appear large
by Guest Rosemary Francis- 2 replies

Hi, I'm trying to fix my sisters PC. When she starts the PC the text on the boot up screen is really large. It seems to right itself in XP but then becomes really huge again when her son tries to play some games. I have reinstalled the video driver and checked the display settings. Any other suggestions apart from trying another video card? (I live 1 hour away from her and will try this when I next see her). Thanks for your help.

Hi all. When I hover over an image in a folder, Windows XP no longer shows the image size. It used to, but after downloading seveal updates on the weekend, Windows no longer does so. For example, hovering over image1.bmp (or jpg) Windows would display 640x480 (or whatever) etc. Hmmm???

Screen corruption in Add or Remove Programs aplet
by Guest MarcoC- 1 reply

I recently had some problems with a software application affecting my CD drivers. In the end, I returned to a previous Windows restore point which was created just before I installed some software, and the CD drivers are fine. But now, every time I go to the add or remove programs dialog and scroll down the list, there is a point where all I get is black vertical lines instead of listings of software. It appears that all of the correct entries are there, but the list is split in 2 - some programs are listed, then there are these black lines of corruption for a while, and then the list continues. Any ideas on what has happened here?

Troubleshooting RunOnce - how to determine why some (not all) entries FAILED to fire?

Hi folks, I've been investigating the root cause for a critical issue affecting my CacheMyWork app (http://www.codeplex.com/CacheMyWork/ WorkItem/View.aspx?WorkItemId=2401). Ever since I received my (heavily-managed) corporate laptop at work, I've been unable to get Windows XP to launch all the entries in RunOnce that CacheMyWork adds. In fact, it's consistently been unable to launch more than 1-3 of the 5-10 entries that I'll typically populate with the tool. Here's what I know so far: - On other Windows XP and Windows Vista systems, the same version of CacheMyWork will result in RunOnce entries that all launch at next logon - on the failing system, the …

HELP - Corrupted User Accounts?
by Guest Tom- 1 reply

On my Windows 2000 Pro laptop with my HD partitioned as C: and D:, I just repartitioned the D: drive to give me more space using V-COM's Partition Commander (I booted from the PC CD). While using the boot CD, I saw a menu item labelled "Change SID". I figured that it would present me with a dialog that would show the present SID for my hard drive. However, I got an hourglass and I guess it must have changed it without asking - damn! After booting, I logged in as a Administrator and did some disk defragging (DiskKeeper). I also installed the lastest MS updates using Windows Update (except for the .NET updates). Horror of horrors, I've lost my non-Administra…

Corrupt user profile???
by Guest Penny- 2 replies

I have posted this in the help and support forum and unfortunately I'm not getting any useful input so I apologize for the double post, I just need to try to get some answers. One of my users suddenly is unable to digitally sign acrobat documents. I checked on their user forums and they told me to delete the XP profile. I'm finding that to be a typical answer from a non-microsoft software vendor and thought I would see if anyone might know something more about this. I find acrobat's knowledgebase isn't very good and always seem to get the good sources of information here. I remember having to rename the users profile and create a new one before and …

Open Files and Shadow Copies for Shared Folders
by Guest TREE65- 2 replies

I just enabled Shadow Copies for Shared Folders on our new Windows Server 2003 file server. I have discovered that open files do not get shadow copied. Furthermore, all previous shadow copies of the open files are removed. When I look at the previous versions client, there are no previous versions listed; however prior to the shadow copy that occurred while the file was open there had been previous versions listed in the previous versions client. Please note that the shadow copy occurs when the file is open and then at some point later I save and close the file, and then I check the previous versions. Is this by design? I can live with shadow copie…
