We are running Vmware Workstation 6.x.. I've installed an MSDN copy of XP on a virtual machine instance on our LAN. On my own machine, the same machine used for the creation of the VPC, i can create a linked clone of that original XP image from the lan without problem. No re-activation is needed etc. But, if i have someone else try to do a linked clone of the XP image from the LAN to their workstation (different hardware on the host), the guest linked clone complains that it needs re-activated, requiring us to call Microsoft and go through that long process for every linked clone we have to make outside of the machine it was made on originally. Hope someone could help shed some light. When I try to remote desktop connect to our Windows 2003 server I get an activate windows message. I can log in to the server as Administrator, but can't get any further. It prompts for activation. It is already activated and we've had this server for years. What's really odd is I can go on the server itself and on the console and I don't get any activation message. We haven't done any upgrades or any recent updates. Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

Recently i've noticed that HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDER are not visible even though they are all there but not visible cause i can access them directly through my favourite entry in windows explorer, also everytime i've tried to check the radio button in Tools--Folder -Option--View to " Hide Hidden Files and Folder" and clicked Apply and close the dialog box it reverts back to " +Show hidden file and folder" but not showing any hidden folder. I'm using WinXp Pro sp2. When I try to open the Add/Remove Window, all it does is tell me to wait while list is being populated. It never brings up any of the installed programs. Any ideas why it's not working?

after I have been working for a bit, my Taskbar stops the autohide feature and sits over my workspace. I have searched several times for this in these pages but have had no luck finding any information on it. When I press log off , the small window that pops up doesnt have switch user... only log off. Whats wrong? I checked the services and it says that the Fast user switching service is up and running...

Which click is correct? OK or Cancel, when it seems that either one will close the open dialogue box. I don't want to inadvertently do some damage by clicking on cancel to close a box when ok will do the job and vice versa. Thank You

Find the current Service Packs, Hot Fixes etc. for their network products. What is the time frame since their last major "fix"? What is the physical size of the "fix". How would you acquire this as a network administrator?

Hello all I have Win2003 DC which the user does not know any of the Admin passwords on a dell system with the OS on a raid... I need to reset it. Can I use a VB program which set the Admin password using net user to create a new user in the admin group by replacing one of the programs that starts in HKLM ? Thanks

Somewhere in the last few days - I don't know when - the tab on the "properties" page marked "Desktop" disappeared. "Themes", "Screen Saver" , "Appearance", "Slide Show" (which I never use) and "Settings" are there, but "Desktop" has vanished. Any help getting it back appreciated!
