I am experiencing a problem with offline folders. I have a laptop with Office 2003 SP2 and XP SP2, I have performed a windows and office update and installed all available patches. My offline folders will synchronize fine, however if I try to save a new word document whilst offline to my offline folder office freezes and I cannot use my laptop (this problem also occured whilst using excel). If I amend an existing document and perform a save it works fine.

Firewalls

Thanks to those wha answered Steve Wilsons question (Incidentally. can anyone tell me why so many names in this ng appear as a jumble of symbols, although my tooltip sorts them into English?) The real question is - I've got 3 firewalls, one in an ADSL router, the Windows Firewall, and I'm using Comodo. The reason I like Comodo is it tells me if any prog is phoning home, and requires a permission. Can I turn off both the other two, or is another one preferable, or do I need more than one? I'd prefer to have just one running, as I used to before routers and Windows Firewalls, I never had a sniff of trouble with one of the several excellent freew…

I've never ran into this before (in 20+ yrs); caused by loss of original Partition Table correct? How does he get his Partition Table corrected? If possible. WinXP SP2 by the way.

I tried to find a group for win 2003 and post the message but I cannot find anything. Strange. I remember there is win2003 group before and don't know what happened to it now. Anyway, I hope anyone here can help me then. Because I don't know where to post the message. How do I start the IIS service in win 2003? I tried to do it in the service and it is running but when I tried to put a htm under the c:\inet\wwwroot\test.htm and type http://server/test.htm . It gives "service unavailable". Can anyone please help? Sorry if I post in the wrong group.

Hi, I am receiving an Event ID 5805 "The session setup from the computer <UNIX_SERVER> failed to authenticate. The following error occurred: Access is denied." and Event ID 3210 "This computer could not authenticate with \\<UNIX_SERVER>, a Windows domain controller for domain <NT_DOMAIN>, and therefore this computer might deny logon requests. This inability to authenticate might be caused by another computer on the same network using the same name or the password for this computer account is not recognized. If this message appears again, contact your system administrator." I have a RedHat Enterprise 4 server setup to authenticate users…

Do someboy know if i add more disk to de network drive managed by QStar, windows will become crazy when the space arise up 2 TB ?? Thanks in advance.

Advice needed: rendom and new drive and os..

Hi, We have an old w2003sp2 dc 'mydomain' which gets low on available disk space. We want to replace the disk in this server to a bigger one, starting from fresh with a new installed and updated w2003r2 os, get all the users over with their home folders and roaming profiles. (The latter folders are inaccessible for the administrator) and - finally rename the domain to mydomain.local (to avoid single label domain name dns problems). Should we set up a second w2003r2 as secondary dc and try to get home$ and profiles$ copied over to this box as the first step? Does it exist good white papers on how to get home foldes and profiles over to a second…

Hi We installed Windows 2003 Server a few months ago and we're experiencing issues with it. Recently we keep on having to reboot the server in order to log in from the 20 XP workstations connected to it. The event log shows 4 errors and 1 information, all with the same time stamp. and it repeats these events roughly every hour. 15:23:55 Source:DNS Event ID: 4007 The DNS server was unable to open zone _msdcs.rjs-network in the Acive Directory from the application directory partition ForestDnsZones.RJS- NETWORK. This DNS server is configured to obtain and use information from the directory for this zone and is unable to load the zone without it. check t…

Windows 2003 Server R2 + SP2 => remote administration gone
by Guest Atlan- 0 replies

Hi Newsgroup, I just want to share a bad experience that we had with the SP2 on Windows 2003 Server Standard English R2. The installation was fine but afterwards the remote administration was gone. Which means that the remote clients accessing the server reacted like there is no terminal service active. We set the [x] in "Control panel > System > Remote Administration" several times. There we reassigned users that are allowed for remote access. We checked the firewall for problems with the remote port. Microsoft ISA Firewall reported successfull pass through of remote access. To verify that the ISA is not the problem we removed the firewall and swit…

Screen Resolution and Least User Rights
by Guest Thomas M- 2 replies

We are converting all of our users to standard user accounts (they will not have administrative rights on the local box). I have heard a report, but have not yet had the chance to confirm, that users cannot change their screen resolution unless they have administrative rights. Is this true, and if so, is there a way to institute the least user rights principal while also allowing the user the ability to change the screen resolution? --Tom

Synchronize laptops over terminal server
by Guest judy.sin.jm@gmail.com- 4 replies

Hi, My company has recently outsourced our IT department to a server farm, which we connect to via terminal server. Salespeople who travel with laptops need offline access to their files for when they are on airplanes, trains, etc. I was quite...surprised...to hear that it is not possible to synchronize files for offline use on a laptop via the terminal server. Can anyone absolutely confirm that this is true? I also saw that someone mentioned that this can be accomplished via third party software, I would appreciate it if someone could recommend a software package that can help us with this problem. Thanks in advance, Judy

Remote Desktop Users and Least User Rights
by Guest Thomas M- 0 replies

We have undertaken a project to switch all of our users to standard user accounts (no administrative rights on the local machine). We have many users that are setup so that they can access their computers from home. We've noticed that when the user is removed from the Administrators group, the list of authorized remote users (My Computer > Properties > Remote tab > Select Remote Users) gets wiped out. An administrator then has to log on to the machine and add the user back to the list. I can see why this would happen, but it does present something of a problem for us. I would prefer not to have to fix this problem on hundreds of machines. …
