Someone uninstalled the print spooler on an XP Home box at the office I work at. I can restart the service, but whenever I open up Word, the spooler crashes again. This means that I have to restart the spooler everytime I want to print. Any way to fix this?

Windows Media Player 9 issue
by Guest Zilbandy- 8 replies

Couldn't find a Media Player group, so I'm asking here. I enabled visualizations in WMP9 just to see what's available, and now I can't find a setting to turn them off. I restored my registry with ERUNT's recovery program and "fixed" it that way. Is there a way to disable the visualizations from within WMP? -- Zilbandy

Autocomplete on Files dialog boxes
by Guest Pete- 1 reply

I had to reinstall XP Pro recently and now when I save a file using Save As I am given a dropdown list of files to select from based on what I have typed so far but does not autocomplete to the first file in the list - it used to do this in my previous installation and all I had to do was either press enter to select the autocompleted file or click on one in the dropdown list. Is there a setting somewhere which needs to be activated?

by Guest winmalee- 2 replies

My Pictures folder has just recently become empty - where have all my pictures gone? I did not delete them, the recycle bin is empty and searches even for *.jpg etc come up nil. However If I open the My Folders folder and type in a subfolder name in the address bar e.g. add to c:\Documents and Settings\Default\My Documents\My Pictures\ "Animals" or "Cars", or "Boats" or any other name I can remember Abracadabra the pictures suddenly appear. If i use DOS and try the same I get no such folder even a DIR will get a nil result. So I now know that the pictures are there but My Pictures folder does not show any of them. I have reset the defaults on the folde…

Microsoft Update Again:
by Guest Robert- 2 replies

I posted this topic awhile ago after setting up my sister's computer and the Microsoft update site still continues to stop at the point of checking her computer every time I try and use it. I've tried on my computer at home with no problems whatsoever so it can't be Microsoft as some pointed out. I've checked her settings and they all 'seem' to be fine although they are set a medium-high default. In addition A-Squared won't scan for updates either saying that either she doesn't have a computer connection or proxy settings set. How do I set those or do I need to? Her computer connection is up and running by the way as all other programs function fine, e.g. Spybot…
