by Guest zhengshareware- 3 replies

Digital cameras have gained popularity nowadays. However, they are always host to viruses, Trojans, hacker toolkits, worms and other kinds of malicious programs. For example, when you plug your USB card into a computer that is infected by viruses, these viruses will enter into your USB card by creating a file named AUTORUN.INF and malicious programs on the digital camera. After that, when you use the digital camera in another computer, the one will be at risk. So, how should we protect against threats from digital cameras? Well, here are some suggestions. 1. Disable AUTORUN in the registry and remove the AUTORUN.INF file manually. The AUTORUN.INF file is a text…

by Guest MSExchange2003Student- 2 replies

Hi all Some of my users use a program that use a mapped network drive from their pc (win xp pro) to the server (2003). For some reason they cannot connect sucessfully to the program after each time they log on to the pc for the first time e.g in the morning. They got the expert in and he said it is because their pc losses connectivity with the network drive. I also have some mapped drives and noticed that the forst time when i try and access the network drive it says "disconnected" but when i open it the status change to "conneted" again. So, it seems the issue the program is having is because the map drive is disconnected until someone open the map dri…

Delay after closing Internet Explorer
by Guest DavidB- 2 replies

When I close my last Internet Explorer window and click on another program icon (or the Start Menu), the hour glass sits there for almost a minute and one-half (80 seconds) before the requested program starts. I am running a Pentium 233 MHz with 128 Meg of Ram. Is there a setting in Internet Options or elsewhere that I can use to try to fix this delay?

by Guest Newsgroup Guy- 1 reply

Hi. I tried to make a fresh installation of Windows NT. Unfortunately, after doing so, I realized that the display was really bad, in only 16 colors and 640x480 resolution. I have no idea how to improve this, and I have no CDs that were originally packaged with the computer because it is a very old PC. Can someone help me with this, please?

I have Windows XP at home. When I clicked on Windows 98 Service Pack 1 in Add/Remove, it says it will restore a previous version of Windows 98 so I never did it. I want to keep Windows XP! How do I safely remove all Windows 98 files without disturbing my Windows XP? Add/Remove doesn't say how many MB would be freed up.

Remove protected files from System Restore
by Guest Robert- 7 replies

It is my understanding that Windows XP System Restore maintains copies of protected files, such as .doc and .xls files in My Documents, and that erasing or wiping the original file does not affect the copy that System Restore maintains. If one is disposing of a computer and wants to remove all privacy type files from My Documents, what can be done, if anything, to remove the protected files from System Resotre. Thank you, -- Robert

Minor XP annoyance
by Guest Homer J. Simpson- 4 replies

I've noticed this new annoyance in Explorer, which seems to have started a few weeks ago. I don't get it *all* the time, but suffice it to say it's getting on my nerves. You know how you typically click on a file in details view, scroll down with the mouse's scrollwheel, and shift-click on another file to select all those files between the first and last items clicked? Nowadays, the instant I hit the Shift key (before I have a chance to click the left mouse button on the second item), the details view repositions itself (vertically) so the first item that was selected scrolls back in view. Meaning, I have to scroll back down a second time where I was…
