I moved some files from a computer which was not having anti virus. Then when I brought back my hard disk to my computer so many FOLDERS including my own folders were converted to EXE files and detected as a Torjan by my Norton which could not repair the files. Then I submitted files to Norton security response and they told me these are non-repairable files and I deleted the files by mistake but still when I check peroperties of mentioned drive, amount of free space shows that files are still there but I can not find them. Please help me to find and repair them those are around 8GB my valuable data. Thanks in advance and awaiting for replies.

My Answer to 'Server 2003 - Best Software To Make Drive Image?'

Thanks to all whom responded on my first post below. I tried DriveImage XML many times but the restore never worked. I was experimenting on a XP Pro machine with creating an image of my SATA boot drive to another SATA for storage and then back to a spare IDE drive I have. Yes, I did format and made the partition active and the other options. The machine would never boot. Then came Snapshot. Never would boot. No help on the website. I went through all the options one by one to make sure it was not a wrong setting. 'Image for Windows' worked fine. I tried it on several drives and XP never had a problem with anything. The price is not bad at all so I am …

I am beginning to have some issues with the current motherboard in my system. It is a two processor ASUS P2BDS (yes, and oldie - but it has treated me well). I would really like to swap motherboards and avoid building up my system from scratch, but all the boards I ma looking at are single (uni) processor. If I recall correctly, when Win2000 installs, it loads a different kernel for SMP systems as compared to single processor systems. Will the SMP kernel just revert to a "single processor" configuration? Or will I need to somehow install the uniprocessor kernel? Undoubtedly there will be a couple of rough edges in terms of doing a motherboard swap, but is …

Wasted 8 megs?

Not that I care on a 200 gig drive. But I'm just curious as to why this happens. Does it have to do with the size of the drive not being evenly divisible by the calculated cluster size? http://img244.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00854mediumgj6.jpg Also, what is a good FREE Windows newsreader?

RE: Rude replies I agree. To an expert there may be such things as stupid questions and ignorant people that don't deserve the time of a reply. The purpose of the MicroSoft forums is to educate people of all skill levels through questions and answers. Therefore, there is no such thing as a stupid question. I am running XP and seem to be having a problem with the Crypt32.dll file. I get error messages that say "The proceedure entry point CryptSignAndEncodeCe could not be located in the dynamic library CRYPT32.dll" This seems to be effecting certain applications, most particularly Internet Explorer. ( I have IE 7) When I click on a link which should open a new browser window, I get a "Cant Locate that Page" error in the same window and no other window opens. In fact, I had to post this question in Firefox because IE wouldnt open a window for me to post in...just gave me the same " cant find that page" error. How can I repair the Crypt32.dll file without havi…

HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDER are not visible even though they are all there but not visible cause i can access them directly through my favourite entry in windows explorer, also everytime i've tried to check the radio button in Tools--Folder - Option--View to " Hide Hidden Files and Folder" and clicked Apply and close the dialog box it reverts back to " +Show hidden file and folder" but not showing any hidden folder. I've run Spyware Doctor, Ad-ware, Spybot CA antivirus and spyware, all come clean no problems, only Xsoft's spyware detected two problems in Registry, it says "Eventlog.exe" from HKEY classes Root clsid, and HKEY local machine, which …

Delete windows 98, 3.1, and .NET?
by Guest Hank- 2 replies

I have Windows XP at home and need more space on my hard drive. I noticed in Add/Remove that I have Windows 98 Service Pack 1 (I remember the store left 98 on my PC when I upgraded just in case), Windows Installer 3.1 (KB893803), and Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 (90 MB). Are these extra files that can be safely removed? If so, how? When I clicked on 98 for example in Add/Remove, it says it will restore a previous version of Windows so I never did it. I want to keep Windows XP!

Nvidia Driver Shutdown Problem 1 2
by Guest Tamiami- 36 replies

Greetings, I recently purchased a BFG Nvidia 7800GS AGP card and since installing the drivers (version 82.16, allegedly for 98SE) the machine refuses to shutdown properly. Upon deleting the driver package, it shuts down perfectly. The shutdown patch has been applied. BFG is stumped and said they are referring the issue to Nvidia and that's the last I heard from them. Is there driver release software that would assist 98 in shutting down? Maybe a batch file? EnditAll doesn't help. And be sure to avoid anything from BFG. -- STOP using Google NOW!
