Laptop Standby and Hibernate problems
by Guest sparks691@centurytel.net- 4 replies

I have an older laptop (about 3 years old) running Windows XP. I can't get automatic power management to work. Using the Power Settings in window in XP, I set times for Standby and Hibernate on battery power. XP just ignores these settings and runs the battery down to nothing. I can choose Hibernate or Standy from the shutdown menu (or sleep button) and it works just fine. The display turns off at the time I specify and stays off until I touch the mouse or keyboard. I am assuming that if the "manual" Standby and Hibernate works then the BIOS setings must be correct. I looked at the BIOS APM settings and it was not clear at all which settings to enable/disabl…

I am trying to boot virtual guest from phisical disk (under VMWARE) and I receive STOP: 0x0000007B. I think I need SCSI drivers (propably LSI because only LSI is avaible when we use phisical disk). I need these drivers for Longhorn Server 64 bit (Maybe for vista or 2003 will be good - Do anybody know?). Do anybody know where can I download these drivers? Moreover how to install these drivers (I can boot this machine normally without virtualization and it is working OK)? Is any posibility to add this drivers to the system when I have access to the filesystem?

Windows desktop search is pretty useless - most of the time I end up going to search companion to find what I need. Is there any way to create a shortcut directly to search companion? Thanks

NTFS Corruption?
by Guest Stephan Rose- 10 replies

I seem to be seeing some weird things happening to my XP file system. One directory is inaccessible in every way shape and form with errors telling me that it can't read from the disk. Then I have 2 additional directories that are both pointing to the same identical content. Their names are even identical save that one is missing the last character. Of course, chkdsk, being dumber than a rock, finds absolutely no problems and thinks everything is just peachy. But it's quite apparent that this is not the case. Anyone have any suggestions beyond the usual Microsoft Fix: reformat, reinstall and screw up master boot record / dual boot? Thanks, -- Ste…

Configuring Mac RDP Client 1.0.3 To Allow Local REsources Access
by Guest jbell94521- 1 reply

I am connecting to a Microsoft Terminal Server system, that is running on a Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition machine, (32-bit version). We are using Microsoft's Remote Desktop Client 1.0.3 for Mac to connect. Most things seem to work OK, but we are having trouble with a few: 1. We don't know how to enable local resources on the Mac side of the connection so that the connected user has access to her local machine's disk drives. (We have no trouble doing that when the client is a Windows XP machine. The Terminal Services security is set to allow that feature.) 2. Same issue for local printers. We are used to editing the saved Remote Desktop Cl…

folders will not stay customized
by Guest Panji- 0 replies

When we customize folders, the folders will often swap the pictures placed on them with random pictures in the "pictures" folder. Some will re-check the "Also apply this template to all sub-folders." check box after we uncheck it and close the "Properties" window. I do not know if this is happening to all folders, but it is not happening to all of the folders at the same time. Also, in "My Folders", the folders have random pictures on them even though some of them do not have "Customize" tabs or contain pictures. At least once, 5 of the folders inside of another folder took on the exaxt same random picture. I have checked the folders from the top …

Date Rate tab
by Guest aaa- 0 replies

Hi, A tech support (idiot) clown from Startech.com insists that Window XP SP2 Device Manager / Ports (COM & LPT) / PCI Serial Port Properties should have a tab for "Data Rate" and an option to "Detect Clock Frequency" but I cannot find either. I have all currently available MS updates, hotfixes, patches, etc. When I first loaded Windows XP SP2, I chose to use Classic windows over XP windows and disabled Themes to ensure it. Would this choice eliminate the Data Rate tab and its various options? If so, when I roll back to XP windows, this tab does not appear. Any thoughts? Thank you. Anna Arkin

Removal of Files using the %temp% command run line
by Guest Thomas- 1 reply

I run Win 2K Pro on one hard drive & Vista Ult. on another. If I run the %temp% command in Vista I can free up extra "leftover" files & the space they take up. If I run the %temp% command in Win 2K will I remove essential files? Some seem to be extremely large and I am thinking if I delete them, I might disable all my apps and other installations. Disk CleanUp utility in both Win 2K Pro and Vista leave the files listed by running the %temp% command unremoved but the space shown for these residual files in Vista is small (each under 1/4MB, whereas some Win 2K Pro files show dozens of MB each--so I am wondering if these are NEEDED and the %temp%…
