We have a Server 2008 Terminal server on a Server 2003 AD. We have set the Session Timeout in GPO and attached it to the OU TSServer in which the server resides, but it appears to have no effect on the Session Timeout for the Clients. We have check that the GPO is being applied to the Terminal Server. Is there a difference on the GPO for Server 2008 Terminal Services. Thansk Jim

In a terminal services session, is the default printer set on a per session basis or per server basis? In other words, if user A sets the default printer on the terminal server and then user B sets the default printer to a different printer, do A and B now have the same default printer? Vincent

Please help, we are attempting to connect a workstation to an NT domain controller, our domain is "glvsr" Thanks. Mike we recieve the following error message: The domain name glvsr might be a NetBIOS domain name. If this is the case, verify that the domain name is properly registered with WINS. If you are certain that the name is not a NetBIOS domain name, then the following information can help you troubleshoot your DNS configuration. The following error occurred when DNS was queried for the service location (SRV) resource record used to locate a domain controller for domain glvsr: The error was: "DNS name does not exist." Hi we're a small firm with 60 users. We're moving to a new environment, so we decided to buy Win2008 Server Standard + Exchange 2007 Standard. We will not wait for SBS 2008 since it will come out in November, since we need to move to a new environment till September, so the only option is to buy full products. My plan is the following: - buy a new server to run Windows 2008 Standard (member server) with Exchange 2007 * **I'm thinking of a HP DL360 1xQuadCore 8GB RAM 2x146GB SAS in RAID1 - buy a new server to use it for Windows 2008 AD + File + APP server * **I'm thinkig of a HP DL380 1xQuadCore 4GB RAM 4x146GB SAS in RAID5 or - use an existing serv…

Windows 2000 vs Windows ME
by Guest Angel- 24 replies

I have a question: Is Windows ME the same as Windows 2000? The reason I am asking is because my printer is not what it used to be. I can not load it with paper, it jams or all pages go through almost all at once. I have to feed it one page at a time. I bought the printer, 10/30/2000. It is a Lexmark Z51. I was looking at a new printer and the requirements were for one, Windows 2000 or later. I am still using my computer which is a Windows 98SE, bought 6/1/2000. Angel

"Search Desktop" go away!
by Guest Jim- 3 replies

Well, I grabbed some Windows Updates and now have an insidious little box on my Taskbar labeled Search Desktop, and I can't find where to turn it off. I went into msconfig and unchecked Startup for Windows Search, but the little box is still there. I can't find anything running under Task Manager that looks suspicious; what can I do to regain my Taskbar space? Thanks in advance!

TMP prefixed files appearing on desktop
by Guest GHL- 0 replies

Using XP Pro SP 2 For the last month or so a number of our users have been reporting files appearing on their desktops with a name in the following format: TMP_10-0916-380 20-08-2008_411 NB. there is no file type suffix. All of these files are zero byte in length and are created either when the user logs on or off their account. Between zero and 10 of these are generated at any one time. All users who experience this have roaming profiles. Caching is turned off on the user profile share. Anyone else seen this or have any idea what generates these files? Any help/advice would be much appreciated. Thanks. -- GHL

Hi all. I'm having some overheating problems with my PC running OEM XP. I'd like to change the MB and CPU to something a bit newer to get rid of this problem, but I don't know if XP will recognize the change and invalidate the license/key. Any advise? Thanks

Hi, I want to remove a folder from a briefcase. Is there any way to do this without deleting the briefcase and recreating it without the folder? If I just delete the folder, then it will be deleted from the original when the briefcase is updated. I just don't want it sync'ed in the briefcase. Eddie
