Changing owner of Linux files in Windows XP
by Guest Rob- 2 replies

Linux files have owners and groups. Nobody and 99.99 seem to cause me most problems. Windows appears to ignore them. As most webservers are Linux you can edit files on your windows computers and when you send them up you get a situation where you can't you can't override, edit or delete them when they are on the server. How do you change these values in Windows?

Help! My Desktop VPR Matrix 2000 (sold by bestbuy) crashed, and I lost my restore disk. I have the product key. When I call the PC Manufacture, it automatically transfers me to BestBuy. They in-turn give me the same number to call the manufacture again and say thats the only number they have. Looking for someone who has a copy of the restore disk. The VPR MATRIX 1600, 1800 or 2000 models use the same disk. i can use my product key. Can anyone help me? i would greatly appreciate it! -- rli

I was told by Microsoft that I was unable to change neither my hard drive nor my motherboard (for upgrade purposes) but they were only able to provide supporting documentation regarding the motherboard... Is it true that I cannot change my hard drive? If so does anyone know of any supporting documentation on a Microsoft website? They claim this is making a new computer...

Storage server
by Guest Patrick Tang- 3 replies

I need some experts opinion about purchasing a storage server. we recently decided to centralize all data (about 600GB, including user/SQL/exchange store). After lots of read and asking question, the answer is SAN. My question is it is better to have a storage server rather than a closed box (e.g. EMC SAN storage), I personally think a server is more flexible and scalable. Whereas the EMC box might be easier to setup. If i do want to run a server, what software (OS/application) is recommended? obviously, i need the storage device appear as a local device on the application server (just like SAN device). I hope this make sense to everyone.

How to id the app triggering this dialog
by Guest glen- 6 replies

My wife recently installed a number of shareware apps (approx 8) but didn't particularly like any of them so uninstalled them all using the supplied uninstall options. (On XP home) Now a dialog box appears every few mins. "No connection to the internet is currently available. To view internet content that has been saved on your computer, click work offline", there are two buttons 'Work Offline' and 'Try again' neither of which appear to do anything, and there is no internet available from that computer. Is there any way to track down where this dialog is coming from? Thanks

Broken Authentication, File and Registry Permissions
by Guest mikeg- 0 replies

We have a W2K IIS 5.0 Server with a website configured for anonymous authentication. It's been working fine for more than a year. After applying some July 2007 W2K updates, users suddenly started getting a Windows authentication login prompt. I checked the site and it's still set for anonymous access. The anonymous user account seems okay (not locked or disabled). Then I ran Authentication and Access Control Diagnostics 1.0 tool and discovered BUILTIN\Administrators, NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM and BUILTIN\Users now have insufficient Server and Registry permissions. For example, BUILTIN\Administrators HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\IISAdmin registry p…
