WinXP sometimes does not turn off it's screen
by Guest Levlg- 0 replies

I have WinXP+SP2, it works stable for many days (24/7) without rebooting and turning off. But sometimes it stops to turn on it's screen saver and does not turn off it's screen. Repetitive inputs the settings through Control Panel do not fix the problem. This could be fix by rebooting or sometimes this is fixing by itself. I could not catch what is the source. Prompt me please, what can be cause and how I can fix it without rebooting. Thank you Lev

Start->"Help and Support" doesn't work anymore
by Guest Susan Rice- 1 reply

When I go to Start -> Help and Support, the Help and Support Center window comes up, but whenever I do a search in that window, I never get any results. The left side says, "Search Results Tips" and the right side says, "Browse the search results", but there never are any search results. Placing the mouse pointer in the left side and it turns to an hour glass. But no search results ever appear. It used to work... Not sure what I did to break it...

I run my PC on XP Pro SP2 and use the email address bigron2006@gmail.com as an alternate email address to cut down on spam, etc.in my real life email Recently it has somehow become corrupted and displays everything in a strange, Cyrillic type language (except the email messages, which are in English) I tried reinstalling Gmail to no avail, and I cannot find a language selector. I have also checked my settings in Regional Languages (Control Panel) Your help would be much appreciated. RonaldThomas Gosnells West Australia 17 July 2007

Product code

I am trying to automatically uninstall certain applications using the DOS command line. For MSN Messenger 5.0 I can use the following command: msiexec /x {ABEB838C-A1A7-4C5D-B7E1-8B4314B10138} /quiet /passive / norestart I am looking for the "product code" (the "ABEB838C-A1A7-4C5D- B7E1-8B4314B10138" value) for other applications, specifically: - Outlook Express - MSN Messenger 4.7 - NetMeeting .... with other apps perhaps in the future. I know there are other ways to remove these apps using RunDll32 but I would like to try using only msiexec. Is there a list of these "product codes" available somewhere?

PC refuses to boot from cd. Can confirm it's not a keyboard problem.. because I am able to enter BIOS setup.. unless in this individual case usb/port connectivity is an issue. PC recognizes disc is in CD drive, but refuses to let me press any key during the 5 sec wait.. I've disconnected/reconnected HD cables, no difference. any suggestions?

by Guest sunlead- 1 reply

alright I'm at a lost, the computer keeps restarting at startup, it gets to the part about how it didn't start up right and to pick between starting normally or with safe mode on. For some reason I can't switch from the different modes, and when the timer runs down it just restarts! The keyboard works cause I can go into the setup screen and such.

How to get rid of spuious directrories?
by Guest Don J- 1 reply

I've got a partition that has three directories with names like "UKD4FGDLWD5FPSSIK8EWRT1LOAS9U" that have suddenly appeared from nowhere and cannot be deleted. I am using a program called "Unlocker 1.8.5" that has in the past been very successful in performing the delete, but it doesn't work now. Ive got multiple Windows XP systems installed on my machine, but trying to delete from a different directory doesn't work either. How can I get rid of the directories?
