Explorer.exe process unexpectedly quits
by Guest jj- 4 replies

Hello, my Explorer.exe has been crashing after doing file searches and I'm not sure what to do. According to the following: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/900004/en-us it says that I should uninstall the Microsoft Windows 2000 Resource Kit however, I can't seem to find it on my system? I looked in the control panel to add/remove programs, but it's not there. Any suggestions? Thanks

Can't find files on hard drive
by Guest Newbie- 6 replies

Hi, I have a very strange problem where the "search" in Windows XP doesn't always find the files I need. I have changed the viewing in Explorer so it shows all hidden/system files. I did, however disabled Indexing service. But from what I understand, indexing should only speed up searches, correct? In this case, it goes very quick and returns 0 found. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Can a Windows 2003 DNS server have the equivalent of a hosts file for the whole domain, without having to enter each lookup into DNS management? -- Reply in group, but if emailing add another zero, and remove the last word.

Advice about editing register
by Guest Jack Crane- 3 replies

I received this advice from a Kaspersky forum: ======================================================= You must install KAV before Comodo... Or you can do this.. open regedit and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall \COMODO Firewall Pro export the full key then delete it. afterwards you should be able to install Kaspersky. after the installation just reimport the key. ===================================================== I would like to do the edit he suggests. I've found the register key using regedit, and see how I could export it. But I'm uncertain how to import it again after I've deleted it. I'm reluc…

My mom has a computer running Windows XP. She installed some software for an active desktop that bogged her computer down because of the memory required for the active desktop. She has removed the software and selected the Windows fall theme for her desktop. When her computer boots up, you can see the theme then her screen changes to orange. It looks as though the theme is behind this orange screen. Any advice to get rid of the orange screen?

I have a Compaq Presario V2000 running Windows XP home SP2 that has two USB 2.0 ports and no built in serial (RS232) or parallel (IEEE 1284) ports. I have a Radio Shack model 26-183 USB to RS232 serial adapter cable and a LPT-PCM PCMCIA CardBus to parallel IEEE 1284 that supports SPP/ECP/EPP modes. I am running Quick Basic V4.5 in conjunction with TameDos on Windows XP. Will Quick Basic V4.5 allow me to access these two adapters from inside a ..BAS program while in the Windows XP environment? If not, can I do this using Visual Basic Express 2005, which I have yet to learn? Also, is it possible to access the USB ports in Quick Basic and / or Visual B…

by Guest D. Kirkpatrick- 3 replies

This may have been answered here already but I have just joined this Usneet group for some help. I have an XP system here (HP personal system). It is actually my wife's and is used for school. I have 2 W2K machines myself. Here is the problem. Her system has cranked down to a standstill. It takes (literally) a full minute for any MS Word document to open even though I have a licensed copy of WORKS installed (OEM). Rebooting (hot or cold) can result in having to wait as much as 10 or more full minutes before the system is usable. During that time period the disk activity light is on full as if the disk is being polled or scanned. I have run var…

I just updated my system to 4GB of memory, and ever since the hibernation option under power options is not available. If I reduce the memory back to 2GB, it automatically reappears next time I boot up. Does anyone know if there is a limit to the amount of ram hibernation supports in XP x64 Pro, or if there is anything I can do to enable hibernation with 4GB of memory? Any assistance is greatly appreciated. -blitz22080
