I just installing a new Dell server with Server 2003 and two workstation running Xp Pro. There is a single data drive that is being backed up daily. My concern is backing up the Windows installs of all the computers. I do have a DVD DL burner on the server. Is there software that will let me burn image files of the Windows drives that will not be changing except for minor updates every few weeks so that if any PC crashes I can limit my downtime in getting the network repaired?

A bluetooth GPS receiver connected to a laptop with Windows XP prof. I do the BT connection in the builtin "Bluetooth manager" in WinXP and the GPS receiver is getting the virtual COM-port nr 16. The problem is that the software (Fugawi ver 3.1) which should connect to the GPS receiver can not handle COM-ports higher then 10. Is there a way to change the nr of the COM-port for this BT device ? Anyone? Thanks in advance. Best regards Martin Rådbo Teknologia

DCPROMO Question
by Guest Ann- 10 replies

I was reading up on decommissioning a DC. This is the last server in the domain, no other servers are in the domain. I plan on running DCPROMO to remove Active Directory and then shut the server down since it's no longer needed. My question is (and it's a weird one), when you're going through the wizard and it states that the domain will no longer exist, does that rip out all the information from the DNS server for that domain I'm removing or will it stay there? (it's on a completely different server) Odd question I know, I hope I asked it right. Thanks in advance.

Folder View, Folder Names, and IE Frames
by Guest Shane- 2 replies

Greetings, I'm using XP and IE6 and am trying to do something a bit unusual. I have a few projects with documents in various states of completion. Each type and each stage have their own folder, so I'm working with 9 folders. The only way to compare the contents of different folders, as far as I know, is to open both folders, resize them to see both, and compare. I created an HTML file with 9 frames, each pointing at one of the folders. Now I can open the HTML document and see the contents of all folders, even move files from one to another. Cool. The problem is... I have no way of knowing which folder is which without doing a right-click > proper…

I couldn't find an IE7 forum, hope this question is okay here. I have Search Google as my default. When I use the google search, no matter what I type in the box on the toolbar, it returns a search %s. I am using IE7. You know, when you search using the toolbar box, there is a box and a little magnifying glass. Then, the search result on the screen and another search box that you can use. It is THAT box that has a %s in it and the results of the search always starts with the Wikipedea definition of S Is there something I can change? I've looked in Internet Options and don't see anything. In the "change search defaults" under settings listed are 2 Goog…

On my desktop with WinXP Pro, I need to move it to a larger, and faster, IDE HD, from 80G to 250G. After the new drive is formatted, is Norton Ghost the right program to use to move all my files over? If I use Clone in Norton Ghost, will it just clone/move all my files, or will it clone/recreate my old 80G partition on my new 250G HD? Thanks, Pat

i just ordered a new machine which has x2 300 gig drives - i intend to use one drive as system/software drive (C:) and the other for data (D:) my question is that because the drives are so big (my current C: drive is only 20 gig) should i partition them? i do realise that new software uses a lot more space 300 g seems very big just for a system - obviously it's not so easy to change my mind later so i'm fishing for recommendations really

before shutting down my old p.c. i need to make sure the files are fully accessible from my new p.c. via network cable - i don't need any security for these files at all but i don't want to have to rig it all back up because i can't access the data 1/ the drive itself is already 'shared' by default? but it won't even let me look at permissions so i'm assuming it's accessible from a networked machine 2/ the main folder (there are serveral but i can put them into one) i should set: 'share this folder' = checked permissions = 'everyone' read/write (this is default so will it give me access?) security tab still shows different users with different permissions…

Cannot get past password to start- Help
by Guest bm- 8 replies

My neighbour has a new PC and her daughter installed the software including a password. I was asked to help her install the printer which I did and when I restarted the PC the screen appeared asking for the Password. My neighbour duly filled in the password but it was rejected. After numerous attempts there was no success. I tried all sort of changes such as capitals in place of lower case etc. The odd thing is she successfully used her password before I appeared to install the printer. What I want to know is how do I get the window with the start menu so that I can change the settings to have no password.? Blair
