by Guest Helmy- 1 reply

I want to find out how to find the log in and log off times for the last couple of days for all of the users on a stand alone laptop. I have tried to find this under "Computer Management" which I have accessed from "Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools" but under "Event Viewer / Security" from the "Computer Management" option I seem to see a load of "Success Audit" info. from one day only (today 19.07.07) and no log in information from yesterday (18.07.07) which is the actual info. I am looking for. Also, a lot of the "Success Audit" info. I can see appears to be the same information repeated over and over again. Please help, I have already spent a…

IE6 on XP trouble?
by Guest DH- 10 replies

TIA This one I can't figure out. I cleaned an XP box of multiple viruses and spywares. The system is clean. I can surf using IE6 to about 80% of the websites on the net. Randomly I get a 404 error. For example, I can't get to Google. Yet at the same time I can ping Google. I have checked the hosts file and it is clean. I have also checked "Trusted Sites" and "Restricted Sites". I can not find any third party programs that would cause this. "Content Advisor" is not enabled. I used "Winsockfix", that has served me well in the past. I am out of ideas. Before you suggest it, I have tried to download "Firefox", and all the download sites a…

by Guest Roland- 1 reply

We have a server problem after a shutdown and reboot that I can't seem to find any solutions for. The server is a Windows 2003 Standard O/S with SP1 installed. We shutdown the server yesterday morning to relocate within the server room. After powering back on the server restarted differently than expected. We recieved a message about a service or services not starting. We checked services and many were not starting even though they are set to Automatice. When clicking on these services or properties, they do nothing. Each returns and error depending on what the service is dependent on if any. Additionally, we looked in event viewer for clues, but…

Faxing on my Windows 2003 server has been working fine for a couple of years. All of a sudden I try to fax from my workstation and I get the message that the fax is blocked and the wizard quits. This happened out of the blue. When I start the FAX SERVICE MANAGER iget an error "Failed to load coverpage node" When I do the properties in the service manager I cannot uncheck the 3 disable checkboxes on the general tab. I get "Unexpected Error" when I uncheck them and click APPLY. HELP -- Thanks, Uwe

by Guest Dave Sexton- 3 replies

Hi everyone, I've created an open source project called DocProject (http://www.codeplex.com/DocProject) for which I've used IExpress to package a setup bootstrapper with a Windows Installer file (.msi). This blog article explains how it was done: From Setup and Deployment To Self-Extracting Installer http://davesexton.com/blog/blogs/blog/archive/2007/06/15/FromSetupAndDeploymentToSelfExtractingInstaller.aspx A user has recently reported that on Windows 2000 they get an error indicating that the .exe produced by IExpress is not a valid Win32 program. In the properties window it states that the program is a "Win32 Cabinet Self-Extractor". The user …

auto image transfer facility
by Guest Nigel A- 1 reply

When connecting (for example) a digital camera Windows has a program which automatically kicks-in to facilitate the images being transferred to the computer. For some reason this has stopped working on my PC. Presumably by some means the program has become corrupted and need re-installing, or something like that. In the meantime it is neccessary to use Explorer and whilst this will work it is more time consuming. Please advise how to resolve this issue and many thanks in advance for any help.

Why the Icons of the Desktop change their position?
by Guest Alberto de Oliveira Alves Filho- 2 replies

Hello, I have reinstalled my Windows XP and I have noticed that when I restart it (after putting it to "sleep" - I don´t know the proper world in english) some of the Desktop Icons change their positions (and sometimes leaving empty spaces where they where before), and I have to put them where I left them before. How can I solve this problem? I´m waiting for your feedback. Thanks in advance.
