I have broadband but right now the download speed is 207.98kbps which it used to be a MINIMUM of like 4mbps. could you tell me what to do?? at least with the login things because i can just get the internet company over for the speed issue. and when you tell me please simplify because i know some about computers but not alot. thanks ----…

Be prepared, I have NO idea what I'm doing here...I have a server which I've installed 10 TS CAL's. I have users that I want to hit this server over our VPN to access an Access database. All these users belong to the domain and I've added them to the Remote Access Security Group. Here are a few rookie questions: 1. Do I have to install Access any difference on the server than normally since it's being used via TS? 2. How to I customize the Desktop users see when they log in to the server via TS? 3. How do I restrict the use of other apps installed on this server? 4. On the user's local pc, do I have them run "mstsc.exe" to initiate the TS connection…

Remote Desktop Connection fails on Win98SE
by Guest Ciofegates- 1 reply

Since some days, I receive the following message when I try to access to my W2003 terminal server from a Win98SE pc: Remote Desktop Disconnected The remote connection has timed out. Please try connecting to the remote computer again. [ok] [?] I have searched with google a solution of my problem, but without success. I have tried to connect using either the server name or the server IP. Same bad result. It is not a lan traffic problem: when i boot from the same pc in Linux mode, I can access the terminal server regularly. Can anyone who has experienced the same problem suggests to me something to do? Many thanks.

I have a Windows 98 System that has been reformatted, it was reformatted because you could play gameson the computer for hours, but when you try to get on the internet you get between 10-20 of internet access then the computer locked up. Lights go off on network card, monitor does not receive a signal and you have to turn the power off from the power supply to get it to restart. At first I was thinking overheating but you can run the system all day just do not access the the internet. So then Ithought bad network card. Tried a different one and still have same issue. So I considred driver errors, went out and downloaded all the latest drivers for every piece of …

WinXP Pro Hangs on Shutdown...Why????
by Guest David- 3 replies

I reformatted/reinstalled WinXP Pro -- after system started freezing on shutdown. After re-installing WInXP Pro and motherboard software(no other software)- the system shutdown normally. Next, I downloaded the windows updates - and the system starting taking nearly 2 minutes to shutdown (tested several times). Then after adding some programs, the system now takes well over 3 minutes to shutdown -- always hanging on "Saving your Settings". I've searched Microsoft and Googled galore -- but still remain confused as to the cause. I did check my drivers (through device manager) and the system was working fine on initial re-installation. Any ideas wo…

DFS replication and TS profiles
by Guest Jeff- 1 reply

If I am only allowing one terminal session, is there an easy way to setup DFS replication of our roaming profiles for backup purposes? And if this is possible is it not a good idea to point roaming profile locations to an Active Directory share setup as a DFS namespace instead of to a direct server share. If this is possible, on the event that the server housing the roaming profiles goes down I could redirect to a server that was part of the replication. Any articles or ideas on this?

WinXP reporting incorrect video RAM
by Guest eagle- 1 reply

My video card (GeForce 7300GS 256MB RAM PCI-e) is reported by WinXP Home SP2 as having 512MB of video RAM. I've updated drivers/rolled back drivers and graphics intensive programs often crash to POST or to desktop. One application (Age of Empires III) did give me a hint in an error message after crash to desktop - video RAM = 0 - which didn't seem reasonable. Sys = AMD 64 X2 5600, 2GB RAM I do build my systems and this is first time I've had this problem. Could it be chipset drivers? Thanks

x64 firefox and thunderbird
by Guest miso@sushi.com- 2 replies

I accidentally let Thuderbird attempt to install the latest rev to version 1.5. In the past, this update didn't work and I spent a bit of time getting the old version running. [Note the accident was due to me typing and having thunderbird steal the focus, allowing what I was typing for another program end up telling thunderbird to do the upgrade.] This time I couldn't get back to the older rev (1.5). Version 2.0 doesn't install on my system either. Now to get to the point (and forgive me if this was posted already), I found a website with firefox and thunderbird compiled for x64. http://www.vector64.com/WindowsBuilds.html So far, both the 64 bit Thunderbir…

New to TS
by Guest RogerS- 2 replies

I am running a peer-to-peer network (mixed OS from XP Home, XP Professional to Vista Basic and Vista Basic Premium) at the moment but my company has opened a new office in a different state. The office is connected via VPN to our main office and I have an access based database application that is used over the VPN. The application runs very slow in the existing environment (it is installed on a XP Pro computer) and it was suggested to me to use Terminal Services. Here are my questions as a newbie to TS: - Do I need Windows Server 2003 or can I purchase just Windows Server 2003 Terminal Services? (I've read that in order to use TS I will need TS Cals, bu…
