wireless problem after SP2
by Guest RCCHS network admin- 1 reply

Hello, I am the not-so-knowledgeable-about-server-2003 network admin for a small charter school. I just updated to server 2003 SP2. All my students computers are wireless. If I log on as a domain admin on a student computer, no problem. If I log on as a student, the wireless connection will coneect and then drop, over and over again. Happens on more than one computer. Students have a different group policy applied to them. If I take the user out of the student group and make him a domain admin it works fine. Something in the student Group Policy? I have looked but nothing jumps out at me as possibly being the culprit. Please help, this is driving me crazy! …

Hi There I hope someone here can help me, I have a client which started having a problem with his Exchange server a few days ago, where his store wouldn't mount after a reboot. This morning they could not get the store mounted manualy and I started investigating, the csrss.exe is using 560+ MB ram and the server has only 3GB physical and 8Gb page. At start up the server is running 6.5GB of ram, which is wrong,. I have reinstalled SP2 for server 2003 and Exchange 2003. Every time you try and start the Public or Private Store it gives me C1041724 and in the event logs , id: 9175 - MsExchangeSA Is there anything that I can look at.

External USB hard drive, drive letters
by Guest Vic Abrahamian- 2 replies

Hi We have 5 editing workstations with Windows XP SP2 and about 15 users who use these 5 workstations. Each user has an External USB drive. Is there a way to force one drive letter for all users that plug in their External USB drives into these 5 computers? For example when a user plugs in their hard drive to PC 1 or PC 2 or PC 3 or PC 4 or PC 5, they should see the same drive letter "O" as their external drive. Currently it seems to be changing on us and it's out of our control. Thank you

Second hard disk

Recently I fitted a second hard disk to my computer. The first hard disk has two partitions, which showed in My Computer as C: and D: before the econd disk was fitted. The second disk came with a 32MB FAT16 DOS primary partition, which I left as it was; I then used the Windows 98 FDISK to create an extended DOS partition on the second disk, with a single logical drive. Now the FAT16 primary partition shows in My Computer as D:, the logical drive in the extended partition of the first drive as E:, and the new logical drive in the extended DOS partition on the second drive does not show at all. Can anyone tell me how to get access to the logical drive in t…

Access Based Enumeration causing email link problems
by Guest Gunnertac- 0 replies

My file server is setup reasonably simple like this. \\server\root directory is where all permissions start. Employees are granted only Traverse Folder\Execute File and Liste Folder\Read Data permissions. This lets them get through to lower folders without being able to add/modify root level folders. At the next level folder employees have custom permissions which is Full Access checked and then edited in Advanced Security to remove Full Control, Change Permissions and Take Ownership. All other permissions are granted and nothing is denied. This gives the employees pretty much full access to that lower level folder and they can add, remove, modify...ev…

Login Screen Doesnt show up at boot
by Guest Usmanatron- 5 replies

Hi, Im having trouble getting to the login screen in my Win2K installation. Everything boots up fine, but it stops where the 'press Ctrl+Alt+Del' is supposed to come up. Instead, I just have a solid blue screen with the mouse. Ive tried all safe modes and still get the same problem. I don't really like the idea of having to reinstall Windows from scratch, so is there anything else i can do? Ive been reading around and suspect it might be something to do with userinit.exe, the one I have is: 17.3KB, modified 19/06/2003. The last thing I did was clone the hard drive (my idea of a backup) - Ive read KB article 249321 about the drive letter, but I dont t…

As mentioned elsewhere I cannot get Flashplayer 9 to load, it was suggested at work I update the graphics drivers. It appears that my PC has aSIS 650 chip and there is an updated driver available. Once I have downloaded the file from the SIS site how do I install the new driver? Should I even be trying to do this, is there any chance that I will end up with a blanks screen? What precautions should I take in case the new driver does not work?

The Windows system drivers for both my CD reader and burner are suddenly "missing or corrupted", so I can't use either. Can I repair this without the XP CD? I have a legal XP Pro, but the CD (licensed to a company) is not immediately available and I need the reader urgently..... Thanks. Janet

MVPs, I am having problems with a Windows XP SP2 install that has the following symptoms after startup: 1. The taskbar is of minimal height and cannot be resized (no start menu visible and taskbar is only a few items wide) 2. Several automatic services are hung in the "Starting" state. They are: a. COM+ Event System b. Network Connections c. Shell Hardware Detection d. Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) 3. In the services.msc (or any MSC for that matter) the action->properties does nothing. I have tried secpol.msc, services.msc 4. The "Extended" tab in most .msc's is empty, but the Standard tab …

Configuring Terminal Services in a test lab just for the practice of installation and configuration. Using Eval copy of 03 from the MSPRESS self-paced training kit. Set up three servers-- one DC, two member servers. Configured both severs as Term Servers. Installed Term Serv Licensing on SRV1. From SRV2- I can terminal into SRV1 without issue. From SRV1- I cannot terminal into SRV2. I receive a lengthy logon message relating to permissions and RDP membership. RDP membership is fine, rights are fine, etc. If I install another Term Serv Licensing server also on SRV2- error goes away. Did it again- one way. TSL was on SRV1, TS on SRV2. Could n…
