I am trying to find an easy way (script) to gather the following information from a lot of servers (mostly 2003) REMOTELY : -Network Shares -Share Permissions -What Users/Groups are part of the Administrators group on the server I know I can do this manually with the Shares MMC snap-in, but I would really like to be able to run a script that outputs this information into an file that is easily imported into Excel. Any ideas?

WinServer2003: Telephony Service stops one second after starting
by Guest scooper- 1 reply

We have been using a Windows Server 2003 box as our VPN server for years. When it attempted to automatically install Service Pack 2 last week, it ran out of disk space on c:\. I then deleted a bunch of stuff, including some unused Windows components, then successfully updated to Service Pack 2. Now, everything works, except VPN. The Remote Access Service won't start, because it depends on the Telephony Service. When you start that service manually, it starts then stops one second later. If you set Telephony to automatic, the event log fills up with starts and stops once per second. I don't know if this is a result of SP2 (probably not) or the result…

I run my PC on XP Pro SP2 and use the email address bigron2006@gmail.com as an alternate email address to cut down on spam, etc.in my real life email Recently it has somehow become corrupted and displays everything in a strange, Cyrillic type language (except the email messages, which are in English) I tried reinstalling Gmail to no avail, and I cannot find a language selector. I have also checked my settings in Regional Languages (Control Panel) Your help would be much appreciated. RonaldThomas Gosnells West Australia 17 July 2007

Direct X conflict?
by Guest Sue- 10 replies

I have been wracking my brain trying to figure out what is preventing my backup software from being able to write to my DVD drive. Right after I installed some software, the DVD was made inaccessible. Today I realized that the only new thing still on my system is Direct X. Is there a known conflict and if so, what is the fix? Thanks! Sue

Questing on printing and Print Servers
by Guest Corey Arndt- 1 reply

I want to print documents from my Terminal Server to a remote location via a VPN and a 1 meg conection. The items I am printing are Excel Files with Pictures inside. The file itself is 5-10 meg in size. Currently I am printing from the Terminal Server direclty to the printer (via ip address). When printing, the printed file size increases 2-3 times in size and as a result prints very slow. If I change the setup and print to a print server at the remote location (instead of directly to the printer), will the file size still stay smaller or will it still grow? Which way is better for printing (reliablity and speed)? I know adding a print-server at…

format hard drive

My hard drive (with a messed up XP on it) is labeled G: for some reason. I am trying to format it and label it the C: drive. Then I plan to do a clean install of XP Pro. I tried to format it using Vista on my other hard drive, but it won't allow it because it is "active". I also tried to format it using MS-DOS 6.22, but MS-DOS won't recongnize G: as a hard drive so it won't format it. If I boot from the XP Pro CD, will it give me an option to format the drive and change drive letters? Thanks.

We are using Win 2003 Server TS edition. We have 10-15 users logging in at a time. There is one user that constantly gets disconnected. He gets the following message: “The connection has been lost. Attempting to reconnect to your session… Connection 1 of 20” Any suggestions? Thanks -- Gabe

Managing system services from remote computer with GPMC
by Guest Nathan- 5 replies

Hi, We are running Win2k3 x64 as a TS and the GPMC isn't supported. We have a need to allow a single user to be able to start/stop a couple of services for an application installed on the server. This worked ok on our 32bit TS install as we could load the GPMC and edit the services. So my question is, how can I use the GPMC to manage system services on a remote computer so I can allow this user to manage these services? TIA Nathan

Hi, After we installed Windows Server 2003 R2 Datacenter x64 on our server, when we log into the system using local administrator we are able to install software, however when we login as network administrator we are unable to install software. This situation didn't happen with Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard. Not sure where to change the settings so that we can log in as network administrator to install the software.

Permissions causing performance problems
by Guest PJ- 0 replies

I am trying to run DotNetNuke (an ASP.NET 2.0 based content management system) on a Win2003 development machine, but I think I may have some sort of problem with permissions. I'm not really sure if this is a DNN issue, but more likely something I have misconfigured in Win2003. The install of DNN went fine, but the performance of the DNN install is extremely slow on the LAN, but apparently fine from outside. When I work on the site on the Win2003 machine the performance is still slow on my user account, but it runs fine on the machine's Administrator account. I'm not really a Win2003 admin expert, so I am not really sure where to look for this. Is it…

XP Recovery Console

I was trying to install XP on my C drive. Apparently, I loaded it on the E drive instead. I didn't realize it until today when I tried to retrieve a document. Is there any way to fix the partition and get the data back? Will Windows XP Recovery Console get the files back? P.S. How do I find the "number of the appropriate Windows installation?"
