Memory allocation error after SP2 on X64
by Guest ExperimentalEconomist- 4 replies

Does anyone know if there is an x64 version of hotfix 894472? The 32-bit version is only available by special request (or from the Stata Corp. website, where it lives with MS permission), and I can't get a clear answer from Microsoft about the existence of a 64-bit version. On 32-bit XP this hotfix, 894472, repairs the memory allocation error induced by SP2 that causes a specific DLL (Xpsp2res.dll) to load in the middle of memory, at 0x20000000 (this info is according to the MS support web page for 894472). This location for the DLL fragments the memory space, and prevents software that needs a large block of contiguous memory from being allocated th…

Is there a way to choose which devices get which drive letters? My Smartmedia cardreader was unplugged when I installed a new external hard drive for backup, and the new HD took the G:/ which I am used to having as the cardreader drive. How can I make the card reader G:/ and the new ext hard drive I:/ (I already have another external hard drive H:/ for all my personal data). -- Thanks for the help! Janet

"NTLDR is compressed..." Need help
by Guest Yichuan Dong- 3 replies

Hello, My computer is a Compaq Presario. I do not know the model number, however, because I cannot boot up my computer. When I get to the OS choices menu, a message saying, "NTLDR Compressed Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart." Before this happened, I used the compaq recovery console in an attempt to fix a seriously damaged copy of Windows XP Home Edition; System Restore wouldn't work. When I do get into the boot menu by pressing F10 (for recovery), it replaces Home with a non-functional Windows XP Pro. Also, I don't have the Windows XP CD. Could this have been a virus? I can't format the hard drive, either. Please help. I have years of work that has not been backed-up. Thank…

Share custom paper sizes over network?
by Guest Darwin- 7 replies

We have a client in the field of civil engineering and they have demands for custom paper sizes for when they print/plot their documents. When we create custom paper sizes on a PC, they are only available on that PC. Is it possible to create custom paper sizes and have them available to all users on the network without having to visit each PC and create them manually?

Re: TS CAL Monitoring and Alerting Hi, I've seen some artiles about Terminal Services License Server WMI provider to monitor available lisences. They use the following classes: Win32_TSIssuedLicense Win32_TSLicenseKeyPack Win32_TSLicenseReport Win32_TSLicenseReportEntry Win32_TSLicenseServer I couldn't find these clases on my W2k3 TS Licensing servers, I suppose it's because they require TlsWmiProv.mof Does anyone know how to get it installed? Thanks!! Regards, Lu. "Vera Noest [MVP]" wrote: > I agree that that would be a nice feature. > > I would schedule a batchfile to run once a day. Run lsreport, and > parse the out…

I'm located in the U.S. I have a share on a server in a different forest in China connected to us by a high speed WAN link. When I try to access the share by name I get prompted for credentials and can log on normally and access the shares. When I try to connect by IP I get the following error message "the system cannot find message text for message number 0x in the message file for \\10.10.128.1" I saw a microsoft article that referenced smart cards and I turned off the smart card authentication on my NIC. I also saw something that referenced smart cards and Windows 2000 SP4 which involved a hotfix, but this server is server 2003. Any ideas? A…

Problem starting XP
by Guest Rhysy- 3 replies

I'm having a problem starting the computer. It gets to the "Microsoft Windows" screen, with the green loading bar, but then it just goes black. Strangely the mouse pointer is visible and responds, as does the keyboard, but the usual blue login screen does not appear. I've tried waiting several minutes but nothing happens. Rebooting doesn't help. Ctrl+alt+delete does nothing. I've tried clicking around randomly incase the login screen is somehow active but not visible, but nothing happens. I can't try starting in Safe Mode because the last time we took the machine in to be repaired, a password appears to have been placed on the boot menu and I don't know…

i have been working with nero techs on a problem- they sent me a tool to gather logs to send them [it called 'get support files' ]- when i try to execute that program i get an xp error msg--"....restricted by administrator policy...." MS site has no info on this msg---i can down load other things and execute them-- by the way my original problem is that nero recode goes through all the moves and then stops on a recode task telling me that "the parameter is incorrect--out of memory"- drives me crazy--i have good hardware-all are up to date- im no expert but have enough knowledge to troubleshoot most things --but this..... jthank you
