Is there a need for this?

Hi, I'm an entry level "admin" for a network in my office. Previously I was a systems admin for a small business and maintained a mixed Mac/XP setup with a server 2003 machine setup for file sharing and an internal testing site for the web devs. Now I'm thrown into an office with a previously configured SBS and I've noticed on all my workstations, all XP Pro, they're set to connect to the server which is setup for AD. As best I can tell, it's completely useless. Everyone logs onto the server but works locally. The only reason I can see that the server is even in the building is to host files that everyone accesses and to run an SQL database for an app we ha…

I've tried starting it with the restore disk in the CD drive, but still nothing! I've also tried restarting in Safe Mode, no good. There must be a way to install from MS Dos or something...Please help me!

We just moved all the operations from a File/print server to a new one and everything is working except for a shared excel spreadsheet. the users are reporting that they get "Delayed write failed" when trying to write to this shared file. I have checked all the settings and permissions and they are able to use other files fine. I have found some notes on the web about auto neg between the nics and the switch port. the old server were HP NICS and now they are Built in Broadcom cards teamed together. Any thoughts? thanks

Hi there people, I recently bought a VGA splitter for my computer, I am trying to set up dual monitors: one to a standard LCD monitor and another to a LCD projector. I manage to get it working but win xp doesn't seem to pick it up as dual monitors instead it mirrors what I have on the LCD monitor. Any idea how to force a detection so that win xp actually picks it up as 2 independent monitors? TQ

Briefcase and Subfolders
by Guest Kurt- 1 reply

I have Win XP Pro SP2. I am trying to use Briefcase to synchronize a large group of files on a networked computer to my laptop. I created a "briefcase" on my laptop, and copied all of the folders contained in the primary folder I am synchronizing. The files I need are at \\server\c\progfolder\data\files. In that folder, I have lots of subfolders. When I set up the briefcase, I put it at a location on my laptop that corresponds to the network structure, at c:\progfolder\data_remote\files. This "files" is my briefcase. I copied all of the subfolders from \\server\...\files to c:\...\files. Now, when I Update All, it synchronizes the contents of th…

Ad-aware
by Guest Shane- 12 replies

Well, it's been weeks now. I've e-mailed them twice asking how I'm supposed to acquire my copy of Ad-aware Plus as per my 2000 purchase that included lifetime updates. I've had initial acknowledgment of both e-mails but no further response. I shall henceforth consider Lavasoft to have become a new Symantec - their products don't work and they don't give a puck about their customers. I shall assume they have decided lifetime updates promised in the early days was a mistake. I expect that in court they will try to argue that Ad-aware 2007 is a different product - and, indeed, that that is why they named it so! I shall spread the word that they - like Syma…

more than a shell change
by Guest parahumanoid- 1 reply

Hi, I wonder if I can achieve running an application as the only one on the console. While running it instead of a shell in a windowed environment, where a GUI task is available upon pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del, is adequate for some scenarios, I would like to remove that opportunity and make it truly the only accessible application. You know, the X-window style thing, where quitting the app also quits the logon session. I suppose that would mean interception of the Ctrl+Alt +Del hook. Essentially, I am looking for MetaFrame's functionality without using MetaFrame (preferably, using the native Windows functionality, not installing add-on products). Ideas? Thanks…
