Re: I cannot create startup disc

Re: I cannot create startup disc Please clarify, I am always leery of clicking on .EXE files unless I know what will happen. When I insert a blank floppy in A: and click on the Fat32ebd.exe file on the CD, does that transfer the startup files to the floppy? Hi All, Forgive me for asking a Windows 2003 server (SP2) question on this site, but I think you guys may know the answer. In Control Panel, Automatic Updates, I have a blue link called "Windows Update Web Site". If I click on it, nothing happens. Anyone know how to fix this? Many thanks, -T Other symptoms that may or may not have anything to do with this: 1) If I manually do to "http://www.update.microsoft.com/ microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us" and press "Express", it runs and runs and runs. Never stops (let run 20 hours as a test) 2) The yellow shield in my task bar for installing updates always takes me through the insta…

My hard drive failed on my laptop this morning and it wouldn't boot. I tried to put it into an external enclosure but it wouldn't show up on the MY Computer folder. I tried another hard drive and it showed up so the connection and the enclosure are working properly. Is there any other way I can get my hard drive to show up as a drive on My Computer or is the hard drive fried?

No Internet Connection

I have had a small network in my home for a few years now. At this time my wife's computer won't connect to the internet. At first it had low connectivity. Now it says that it is connected but it isn't. I get a weird IP address (169.254.36.30) when connected. I was using a Linksys BEFSR81 router that recently died (only operates at 10 half MPS now) and a D-Link DI-524 wireless when this happened. Interestingly I received a notice that the computer had restarted after it downloaded an important update. How it connected for this I have no idea. Any ideas out there? -- BMB

Under Reporting Hard Drive Size
by Guest Ugly Trick- 13 replies

I have a two hard drive system. One is a 12.7 Gigabyte capacity, and the other one is and 80 gigabyte capacity. When I had Windows 98 SE, the software put a dynamic drive overlay in the boot program. I upgraded to XP Home and stayed with the FAT 32 file system. Now the computer is reporting the capacity of the 80 gigabyte hard drive as 31.4 gigabyte. I have tried every suggestion that I could find, to no avail. The 80 gigabyte hard drive is the slave in the system, because I want to primarily use it for storage. Help! I do not want to change the file system and have to reinstall the XP Home OS. Ugly Trick

Want to avoid 750Sata Disk coming in as disk 0
by Guest nesredep egrob- 2 replies

I have bought a 750GB Sata WD disk to store some of the video I am working on at the moment. When I open up Disk Management I see the disk is there as disk 0 and that it is a dynamic disk. I cannot remember how to sort out that problem. I was wanting the disk to be partitioned in 5 seperate logical drives to continue after logical G. I can really use some help here. As you can guess I have installed the drive and used the W2000 disk to get to where you press F6, where I used the floppie Raid to install the driver. From there I dropped out of the installation using F3 all of which is fairly standard. Help Please Borge in sunny Perth, Australia

Basic WINS configuration question.
by Guest Purtech- 0 replies

I have two Server Standard 2003 R2 SP1 Domain Controllers. Lets say one Domain is xyz.com and the other lab.xyz.com. Full names: adminserver.xys.com and labserver.lab.xyz.com. A trust relationship flows from adminserver to labserver, but not the other way around. WINS was initially put on adminserver, then I started having errors that made me believe I needed WINS on labserver. Now both have WINS. DHCP exists only on adminserver and handles both domains. So...in the DHCP scopes do I make adminserver the Primary WINS and labserver Secondary? Does it matter? All the lab computer will wind up using adminserver as Primary WINS. Or should I install …

6:10 AM 7/12/2007 RE: Recycle Bin Inquiry Occasionally I want to review some of the items in the recycle bin. When I (double) click on an item, I get a properties message box. I don't want the properties. I want the actual program to execute. (± 95% of the time I want to look at a text file.) How can I execute the actual file without having to restore it? Thank you, Barry Karas

Networking 2 computers
by Guest The Golfer's Wife- 4 replies

I have a new notebook and an existing computer. The computer runs on XP, the notebook on Vista. I am on ADSL and I now have a new 4-port Belkin ADSL 2+ modem and all the hardware is working ok. I am trying to network the two computers so that I can share files (only in case of a breakdown in either one). I have the printer software installed on both and it prints on either computer (depending which is hooked to an ISB port). I am very happy with all of this. I have given the same name to both network names and HOME as the generic name. But the network won't work. Is there something else I should do? The Golfer's Wife
