No dial-tone in system startup
by Guest Luc Henrot- 0 replies

I have a dial-up ISDN connection (Speedtouch modem). When starting up the system my modem initialises, and after some seconds, starts to flikker its right LED. Then comes the user-login, which I enter as an administrator. My modem goes on flikkering, but when I ask to start the dial-up, is says: "no dial tone". When I wait a twenty minutes, it all stops by itselves flikkering and returns into a stable LED. Starting up the dial-up is OK, I don't have any troubles the long of the session. I suspect that there is a program, routine (no virus I hope) that executes 'something' and waits for a reply or something else. As it happens before the user-login, I cann…

Need to remove web access from some users
by Guest Fritz- 4 replies

A customer of mine is having an issue with employees abusing web access on two specific systems in the building. I don't want to remove the default gateway from the TCP/IP since that takes out the system's internet connectivity altogether so instead I thought of removing execute permissions from iexplore.exe and firefox.exe for users w/o admin privilege. Is this a good way to handle the problem? If not, what do you recommend? Thanks!

Recently I cannot seem to get my messages from Microsoft Outlook Web Access. All it says is just "Loading..." and then the error on page appears on the status bar. The error icon says "automation server cannot create object". Can someone help? Is there a setting on the Tools>Internet Options>Security Level that I need to change.

RDP 6 and Terminal Server Farms
by Guest Jeff- 1 reply

I have a terminal server farm with name farm.ad.domain.com that has 5 terminal server nodes running 2003 enterprise. RDP 5.1 and 5.2 connect to (virtual) farm.ad.domain.com which hits my session directory server and connects to the appropriate node. RDP 6 can connect to each node in the farm (tries to log on locally and not to domain account, separate issue) but I can't make it connect to the virtual farm name or farm's virtual ip address. When we upgrade to Vista next year this will be a major issue. How can i get RDP 6 to connect to the terminal farm name?

Everythings a [*.lnk] after Anti-Spy downloads

Everybody, and Anybody, HELP!! I've been plagued with Errors [Runtime, MSIMN.exe, "Unexplained", etc.] slow-downs, and crashes for weeks. Running Windows 200-Professional, w/IE6, OE6, and receiving MS/Windows Automatic Updates. I've hunted to no avail to download real MS Anti-V/Anti-Spy Programs that will work on my "LOWLY Win2000". Last night, and into the early A.M., I tried several "Third-Party" set-ups for this type of program. One said that I was infested with dozens (no exageration) of Viruses[virii ?], Trojan Horses, etc. which could only be contained and erraticated with thier "Full" purchased pack. I tried to UNinstall that from my PC, a…

I try to run Internet Explorer and it says that there is not connection. I don't have dial-up connection so that won't work. How do I make it so the internet will work on that computer? I really need you help. Thanks.

by Guest Penny- 8 replies

I have an NT 4 machine that suddenly won't boot. I tried repairing the NT installation but the machine doesn't see the hard drive. Does anyone know if it's an option to slave the hard drive to another machine with a different OS to attempt to get files off of it? I don't have another NT machine available. Then there's running chkdsk I've got a windows 2000 machine I can slave it too, would that work?

Network Adaptor failure
by Guest brunetto- 1 reply

My OS is Windows XP service pack 2. The computer is Dell 4700c. I had been having a problem connecting to the net. I contacted my isp who directed me to Dell who sent me back to the isp. Apparently the IP address was the culprit. The isp sent some kind of signal to the modem and a new IP address appeared and the net again was accessible. I just did a scan using the Network Diagnostics in the Windows XP Professional Help and Support Center and the only thing that failed was the Network Adaptor. The specific entry is: - Network Adapters FAILED. - [00000001] Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller (FAILED). + IPAddress = 24.12.53.118 (FAILED) I …

Vista x64 vs ERDNT
by Guest Flatus Ohlfahrt- 3 replies

Those of you who use ERDNT to automatically backup registry files will understand how it bugs me not being able to get that program to function under Vista x64. I get the following message as each element of the registry is to be written: RegCreateKeyEx:5 Access Denied There are no related entries in the event files. I've verified that the directories I use for archiving ERDNT files and contents are not write protected. Aside from this stumbling block, I've had a remarkably easy install of this system on a low-budget platform. Matter of fact, it was easier than any Windows OS that I've installed. Any help in sorting this glitch out would be appr…

Opening html file etc.
by Guest Eustace- 6 replies

For two or three days now I have experienced some peculiar events: (1) When I click at a local html file I get an alert like: Windows cannot find 'C:\my files\webpage.html'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button and click Search. while the webpage loads OK at the FF2 (my default browser). (2) When I close one program, another program closes simultaneously. This happened 2 times with the same 2 programs. I run Ad-aware and it found 2 registry keys and 1 registry value (dialers, low risk) that it took care off. Then I run Spybot and it didn't find any other problems. Since the 2 p…
