Streaming Media across multiple subnets
by Guest MnL- 0 replies

I work for a county library system as an administrator that has 28 branches in multiple locations within the county with multiple subnets. We have just acquired office-training videos that we are to make available to the public and I am looking into the best way to do this. On Friday, I did a test installation of streaming media server on a 2003 server box but did not have much time to look at it. So my question is what would be the best way to make these videos available on the public PCs all running XP pro across multiple subnets without sapping all of our bandwidth. I cannot setup a server at each location. The files are wmv. and quite large. Thank…

I have Charter high speed connected to my Windows ME. Last Friday we had thunderstorms and I have completely lost my internet service. My modem is still receiving signal, but my computer and modem will not connect. Charter has tried to help, but to no avail, especially since I'm using USB cable. My computer is not even showing an IP address now and I'm stuck. I have to have this thing going and can't presently afford a new one. Any suggestions?

Cannot uninstall program!!
by Guest bill- 4 replies

This is probably pretty stupid but I have googled and found nothing to help. I have a fairly simple stock control/ database program which crashed on me due to a power failure. To re-install I must first uninstall. Problem is via add/remove programs the process just hangs. I cannot uninstall it. Just removing the folder and deleting as many reg entries as I could find did not help. How can I uninstall this damned thing ?? Using win98se. TIA Bill

by Guest ffsabbagh- 2 replies

I´d be glad if someone could help me. The issue I´m having is that PC reboots EVERY time I play a DVD disc (physical disc on drive, or emulated iso). Problem goes as follow, DVD disc is in the drive, I can go through menu, play movie, everything goes fine BUTwhen I exit windows media player (or any other program I try to use to play the dvd content), PC reboots on the spot. That only happens with DVD content, I can play divx, avi, etc etc, any other content fine, however when I try playing a DVD disc, I get this issue. I starting to think I might have some codec problem, however I´m not sure, and dont know how to deal with this. Thank in advance for a…

64 bit Laptop?
by Guest XS11E- 4 replies

HP says my Compaq Presario V5306US is Vista compatible and on their website they give detailed directions to upgrade to Vista, offering a BIOS upgrader, Vista compatibility checker, etc. all in one download: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericDocument?lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=3245653&lang=en&docname=c00678123 All went well, I installed Vista Home Premium 64 and found HP provided no drivers for the modem or sound card. Pretty useless to have a machine for travelling w/o a working modem... I emailed them and their reply in part: "I regret to inform that, as HP has not yet started bundling Windows Vista 64 bit operating syste…

New message when I boot up my laptop
by Guest Sefton B- 1 reply

For the past month, each time I boot up my laptop I get the message: "The instruction at '0x00b11306' referenced memory at '0x00650680'. The memory could not be 'read'." I click OK, and all is fine. But it is annoying. Does anyone have an idea what I did to create the problem. I assume the computer did not decide to do it by itself.

Reboot / Restart --- continuously
by Guest dvandusen- 6 replies

I have a continuous reboot/restart on a W2K server after an update. The boot process goes past the bios, then the boot up of the loader (the ........... at the bottom of the screen when allowing an F8), then through the windows 2k load (the splash screen with windows 2k with a progress bar at the bottom), past the keyboard initialization (the lights on the shift led's), through the final splash screen, and to the change to the light blue screen where the pointer is supposed to show. It restarts after 2 seconds, just before the point where the pointer icon displays. There are no devices on this machine other than a Raid card that is/was working fine. Th…

Connection dropping 10 minutes after boot
by Guest OceanView- 2 replies

When I boot the machine, everything's fine. ping works, ipconfig reports everthing ok, browsers work. ABout 10 minutes later, Page not founf on both IE and Firefox...BUT...other connections still work, such as the xnews browser I'm typing into now. Ping still works. When this started happening is when I installed a require VPN software to connect to my employer's network. I've since removed it, but the problem has stayed. I'm an old software guy, but networks baffle me. What could be happening here and how do I find it? Two things I've tried already: pare down the system to bare minumum and installed the TCP connection limit removal patch (I was getting…

by Guest kirk- 9 replies

My pc takes about 4 minutes before it will allow me to start any programs. I have to wait for a message to popup in the task bar telling me that there is no firewall. My windows firewall is enabled. I tried to access the firewall settings at startup through the control panel. I received a error message "Due to an unidentified problem, Windows cannot display windows Firewall settings". Are there some settings I can switch to get rid of the delay? When I purchased this Pc it had Norton internet security installed. I uninstalled that and replaced it with NOd32. Everything was just to slow with Norton. Could there be things left behind from Norton causing the p…
