When I turn off my computer a error box pop up saying "can't read (write? I forgot) 0x020e029a. After a few seconds my computer is off without any more hiccups. It happens almost everytime recently when I shut down. And my computer would turn on as usual without any problem apparantly (only that it takes a long while, several minutes in running 100% CPU for svchost.exe before I can use the CPU power for application). What does that mean? Is my computer infected? Help......

by Guest Kaiser- 0 replies

I recently re-installed my Windows Vista 64-bit system, but when I try to re-install my Panda Internet Security 2008, it displays an error on the installation screen which says: Feature Transfer Error Feature: NT Component: ResidenteFicherosNTPAV File: C:\Windows\SysWOW64\PAV Error: Access is denied This did not happen on my last Vista installation which was also 64-bit, and I was wondering what is going on? I am the administrator of this computer and I should have access to install this, I don't understand, and light on this would be nicely appreciated. Thanks

Did you know you can use a second mortgage home loan to “unlock” the equity sitting in their home and turning it into cash? Many homeowners have money just sitting around their house – literally in their house. Real estate has been appreciating steadily all over the country. Many home owners have tens of thousands of dollars in equity in the value of their home! Ultimately, it makes good financial sense to let your real estate investment work for you, and a second mortgage can be a great way to take full advantage of the equity in your home. What is a good application to monitor the CPU and DISK IO performance of a multiple CPU server? I want to see if our multi-threading applications are taking advantage of all the CPU's on the servers... We currently have mrtg for networks performance, somebody said we could use that. Is there anything better? Regards Chris

Is it safe to delete the update backup folders in the C:\Windows folder (i.e., $NtUninstallKB896727$). I understand that it will prohibit the uninstallation of the update but it seems unlikely that we'd do so. Thanks, Tom

I need to change the default program that executes when a user runs AVI files. Usually I just go into Folder Options and make my changes under the File Types tab. However, I'd like to avoid having to go to every machine to make this change. Can this change be implemented by means of Group Policy?

!0 Minutes Internet Stops

A friend, still running WinME, has suddenly experienced a stoppage of his internet connection after ~10 minutes. The computer does not freeze up, still able to run applications. In order to regain internet connection, must reboot. Suspiciously like an overheating CPU, we swapped over his components into another functionally similar computer. Surprise! Surprise! Same problem. Then we swapped his USB-LAN adapter for a PCI LAN card. Same problem. He's run all his housekeeping utilities, Ad-Aware, SpyBot, Registray mechanic, et al....., but problem persists. Suggestions? What's killing the connection?

When I boot the machine, everything's fine. Ping works, ipconfig reports everthing ok, browsers work. ABout 10 minutes later, Page not found on both IE and Firefox...BUT...other connections still work, such as the xnews browser I'm typing into now. Ping still works. When this started happening is when I installed a require VPN software to connect to my employer's network. I've since removed it, but the problem has stayed. I'm an old software guy, but networks baffle me. What could be happening here and how do I find it? Two things I've tried already: pare down the system to bare minumum and installed the TCP connection limit removal patch (I was getting…

I am going to reinstall XP home onto a computer that originally had XP Pro installed and I would like to start by formatting the HD. I understand that the installation of XP includes an option to format the HD but the disk I have has four partitions and I have not been able to find out whether the installation will format the whole disk as I would like. I have never done anything like this before and would appreciate any advice, tips or suggestions from someone who has done a "wipe clean" installation. DD
