id lock out
by Guest Mike- 1 reply

Is there a way to find out how an ID locked out? Example I just did a password change on App Pools under IIS, and about 100 batch files, on our servers, If I forgot something and the ID gets locked out due to a bad password, is there a way to find out what locked out the ID? Would that be under the security tab in the event viewer, or can I find that somewhere else on the server?

Mystery Ethernet Card
by Guest EGA- 2 replies

Hi Whilst my Motherboard was being repaired another was temporarily installed but with a different Network Card. Since then whenever I try to set up a Network between my PC and my Laptop I get an message to say that my IP Address is being used by another Netwpork Card but that it is not connected to this machine and do I wish to choose another, warning me that the "other" device may not work if I say no. Of course I say no and everything works. However, Event Viewer shows an error every time I boot up with the message "The IP Address lease {my IP Address} for network card with network address {my existing Card's MAC identification} has been denied …

Time issues on non-PDC domain controller
by Guest Guest- 2 replies

Hello, I'm posting because Google isn't bringing me anything. I've got a DC on a virtual server, that has been somehow freezing or being non-pingable. My real problem is, when it comes back after two-five minutes, it's time is off by that amount of time. It isn't a PDC nor does it hold any FSMO roles at all, though it is a GC and DNS. But the main thing is, how often does a non-FSMO DC check with the PDC to update its time? I have manually updated the time at least 3 times this week, and because the DC's machine name is first alphabetically it is the default responder for domain time, and some apps are having problems. I need to try to understand f…

Windows Explorer window always flickering
by Guest tshad- 2 replies

I noticed on my Windows Explorer window on my XP that the left pane (that displayes the folder tree) is constantly refreshing. Why is that and is it slowing down my system? We have some machines where it only seems to happen on the networked (shared) folders so the only the folders below the mapped drives will flicker and not the local drives folders. What is happening here? Is it something I should be worried about? Thanks, Tom.

by Guest Alan- 3 replies

Hi I'm using MS Office 2000 with XP professional SP2. Lately when opening Excel (fresh or existing xls file), it just kept opening, non-stop, from sheet 1 and going on until I press Esc key. However, after pressing the Esc key to stop the automatic opening of the unwanted sheets, the program functions normally. When closing Excel, I have to close all the unwanted opened-sheets first before the program can exit. Any help to retify this problem is much appreciated. Alan

Lock out of XP Pro after formatting Windows 2003 Server
by Guest Trimelater- 2 replies

I have a server where the domain controller is called ARC. I formatted the server to increase the partition of the C: drive. After reinstalling the OS and using the same name called ARC again. I am not able to logon to XP Pro only if I changed the user named. I believed the current username is cache which enables the user to logon. If a different user logon, then the cache is lost and there is no means to logon. Well, my stupid thinking said, why don't remove the domain and join a work group and then rejoin the ARC domain. After reboot, I can't logon and I don't have the administrator password. I will attempt to logon as a "Guest" which I doubt I c…

Pagefile.sys, moving
by Guest William Oertell- 1 reply

Does anyone know of any method of getting pagefile.sys to the front of the drive? The only defragmenter I know of that can move specified files to the front of a disk is Norton's SpeedDisk, but to get that you've got to purchase the rest of Norton's Utilities, which I don't need or want. I don't even want Norton Utilities installed on my hard drive. I've tried PerfectDisk, DiskKeeper, and Vopt, but none of those allow one to place pagefile.sys at the front of the drive, except for PerfectDisk, which claims that it will order files in the same order they appear in layout.ini. I tried putting C:\pagefile.sys as the first entry in layout.ini, but that had…

by Guest Koala78- 1 reply

I am having printing issue here on HP 4345 MFP after windows update was done. I think is related to .NET 3.0. The printer is shared out and list in AD. I roll back the driver version by using the original HP printer CD on the server. Do i need to updat the driver on each individual workstation or the printer driver will be updated on the workstation since the printer is attached to the server? The printing problem is when printing multiple page, the second page shows the PCL XL error. Current Config: OS: Windows 2003 Standard R2 Printer: HP 4345 MFP. Thanks in advance for any help :)

Documents and Settings follow a recent Microsoft KB Patch
by Guest Zone_V- 1 reply

Hi, Yesterday, my PC automatically updated and rebooted following a patch received from Microsoft update. The system event viewer shows the following event: Restart Required: To complete the installation of the following updates, the computer will be restarted within 5 minutes: - Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - July 2007 (KB890830) - Security Update for Windows 2000 (KB926122) After the reboot, it appeared that my desktop was completely reset as if I had just reinstalled Windows2000. I think what happend is that the patch somehow changed the folder references used under Documents and Settings to a new version of my user. If I look und…
